Does anyone here run there wagon on duel Lpg/diesel? have seen a couple of wagons with lpg tanks fitted and from what i’ve read there are big savings to be made on diesel and several companies doing conversions.
My company has 6 Renault Premiums with an aftermarket LPG kit on them. On paper, it was meant to have paid for itself after 1 year. But it hasn’t quite worked out that way. Trucks keep showing emission faults, so the gas has to be turned off alot of the time. Renault say the ECU probably needs updated to accept the LPG as the nox sensors are picking up strange fumes in the exhaust system. Some trucks use over 100ltrs of LPG on a trunk while others only use 10ltrs on the same run. The same kits were fitted to our old Euro 3 Actros’s and they worked perfectly though. Even made them pull better while on LPG!!!
You can’t run a truck properly on LPG without it being converted to spark ignition and reducing the compression ratio.Simples.

By the way think that proves my case in this little argument.
Seen a lot of them in Thailand using LPG in a bank of 8 pressure tanks. Could be looking at the future when you think about it, lower cost fuel with low emission.
I just noticed the Thai trucks while in the Taxi from Bangkok Airport to Pattaya, once I got there I never gave trucks or LPG another thought, can’t think why?
Sure you don’t mean liquid natural gas (LNG)?
Some Dual Fuel trucks around: start on diesel, and use a small amount of diesel as an ignition medium when running.
It’s all a gimmick.
Cooking oil used to be cheap til people started running their cars on it. Same with LPG if it becomes popular then HM Government will jack up the duty on it.
it already happens , lpg has gone up sharply due to duty increases and filling stations cashing in when petrol and diesel go up . the price of gas isn’t linked to petrol and diesel except by greed .
My present car and my last 2 Cars all ran on LPG/Petrol. LPG is cheap as chips compared to Petrol, but it’s gone up nearly 20p per litre in the last 4 months. It’s around £0.89 now.
I had a Xantia that ran quite happily on Rapeseed oil, I used to put 50ltrs in and around 10 of Diesel, stank like a chippy behind me. In the Winter I’d put 50/50 Diesel and Oil. Worked out at £15 for 25ltrs from Makro, it’s now around £25 for the same, still cheaper than Diesel though.

Yep you are correct it was LNG that’s why you need a much stronger pressure vessel to store it, It’s held at a much greater pressure and far lower temperature.
You can see the ice forming on the tank when they load it aboard the ships in the blazing heat of the Arabian Gulf.
I’ve driven one of these, and apart from taking a bit longer to fuel than a diesel, they aren’t any different to drive… using approx 240 litres on a 400 mile round trip. the savings are pretty obvious at current prices.
took these in Bangkok few years back…they where absolutely everywhere in Thailand…

Considering that they all come from the same source (the clue is in the name, Liquid Petroleum Gas) I’d suggest that your argument has a basic flaw, although I do agree about the greed.

That’s what I’m talking about!
3 years ago i had an account at local fuel supplier (domestic and road) i used to pay 39p per litre forLPG for my landie, its now 84p, the more people that use it the more it will increase… i also used a local guy for bio diesel, but he packedin saying it wasmnt worth the hassle anymore with all the hoops he had to jump through ect…
if someone came up with running a vehicle on fresh air the govt will soon find a way of adding extra tax…

Looked everywhere but I couldn’t see a RFL disc…
hardstaffs haulage in nottingham run lpg and lng vehicles and a few diesel only, having driven them i can say without doubt that they are stupidly underpowered compared to the diesel vehicles on the fleet but they reckon its saves about 1million in fuel so hey ho
Gas fuelled vehicles, exempt from Road Fund Licence?

No. I think It’s cheaper if you’re bi fuel. As far as I know you cant run a vehicle just on lpg, you need to start it on petrol first, then when the engine is warm it switches over to lpg. This is my experience with all three cars I had that used lpg.

No, that only applies to electric-powered vehicles.
