Running height with walking floor / tipper plz

Hi all. Been away for 5 years but heading back into the saddle. Can anyone give me running heights with a Scania 6 legger (mid-lift up / running empty) with a standard bulk (tipper) trailer and a walking floor trailer (like Jenkies / Stevenson / Dent, walking floors, etc).

Curtains-siders too but I do know 4.5 is 14’ 9" so I’m fine there.

thanks in advance.

5m tape measure from B&Q, under £7.

Measure top of trl body to base of body.
Measure bottom of body to ground with suspension in different modes.

No guessing, and easy enough to do with different trls and units.

Presumably you’re trying to get a rough idea of the height before actually starting the job, which is fine, but I agree with @franglais that once in the job this is something you definitely need to check with a tape measure (or similar measuring devise).

You don’t want to be in the position of having to explain that you hit a bridge because some random person on an internet forum got the height wrong

Your boss needs to put his hand in his pocket and get one of these measuring sticks and you will need to use it, and don;t rely on random people on the internet

Bridge strikes are a major problem, it’ll land everyone in big trouble: driver will end up in court getting fined and points on their licence, both driver and operator will be off to see the TC (no tea or biscuits, take your own KY because it’s going to hurt)

Six month suspension of HGV entitlement for the driver is becoming increasingly common

got a 5M Stanley tape measure sitting on my coffee table so tape measure it is then. cheers

If you’re on a walking floor they do vary a lot so measure each one if you’re changing trailers AND don’t forget to include the motor if it’s a powered sheet. My mate measured his with the sheet open and he left the pump hanging over the side on the hydraulic pipes when it didn’t go under the bridge he thought it would :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Good info there mate, thanks.

I’ve since found AWJ’s website has all their fleet info, with height of each trailer so I’ve got a ballpart figure to start with.

Just be aware that while you’ve been away from the industry, DVSA have decided they want to see the vehicle height written on the defect sheet, and the height needs to be: i) not less than the overall travelling height, and ii) not marked as higher than OTC plus 6 inches.
