Hi Supertrux ,
Not knowing where you are starting from doesn’t help, as I don’t know how much driving you will be doing, but I presume that you won’t be doing it in one hit as you want somewhere to stop. It’s been a long time since I was in that neck of the woods, but consulting my AS24 guide, ive found a routiers at Montmarault , junction 11 of the A71, which is the motorway to Clermont- Ferrand. It’s called the "Relais de l’étape " and is only 600m from the exit
Go through the péage to the rdbt t/right (1st exit) and its there on the left by the AS24 pumps
If you don’t think you’ll make that , just say so and I’ll look for one a bit closer, let me know what crossing you’re taking and the preferred route
Hi again
Just found another a bit further up the A71 at Bourges, this one is a Centre Routier right by the exit on the opposite side of the motorway, you’ll probably see it ahead of you on th left as you approach the exit. It has a large parking area, restaurant, showers and accommodation too if you want it.
Come off at junction 7, follow the slip over the motorway and through the péage to the roundabout, take the first exit and follow that road to the routiers
Hope these help , have a good trip
Hotel de la gare at Thiers Puy de Dome 632900.menu for twelve euro and a buffet of thirty starters.open eleven am to ten pm wner Jean Philippe Bryk. Its north of Auvergne on a D road and has a hotel and by the train station.4000 m2 of parking space for trucks.
Both of them are decent routiers, used them many times.
My choice would be Bourges personally.
Vin compris means wine included so fill yer boots and to be polite it is tradational to socialise at the bar before sitting down to dine by having an apperitif like aniseed liquorice Ricardo to aid digestion and after dinner a Cognac or a Hennesy or a Calvados which is an apple liquer and makes you sleep like a baby.On the way down on the toll road ask for the driver discount for the menu it us 25% off.The food on the toll road is very good and if you see a supermarket they have restaurants that have excellent choice of meals and some have enough room for artics or a lay by on the national free roads.
If you have time try and rent a car and see the volcanoe region or drop the trailer and have a tour in the tractor unit as it is a very scenic area and some mountains in the area and if sick of the cab the hotel rooms are cheap and Formulae one is a cheap hotel that you can pay on the door with a bank card if reception is shut and the showere room will clean itself after you finish.
Thanks all,
Sorry about the driving from part, nipping over Dover - Calais then running down… Bourges sounds good to me…
Enjoy , let us know how you get on
Breakfast is a light affair if hot chocalate or coffee with croissants and pattiseries which is cakey stuff. They are not in to a full fry up but on the motorways you can have it but it is not the same…There are pizza and take away shops if you can not stop.

toby1234abc, wash your mouth out, Calvados is not a liqueur it’s a brandy distilled entirely from apple juice and not grapes and only comes from the Calvados area of France. It has some wondrous magical qualities such as two small glasses can keep you awake through the night on a long drive, four glasses and you sleep the sleep of the dead, I prefer six or seven when it truly come into its own by turning the dog ugliest of women into a truly raving beauty and makes your job seem like something sent from heaven, be carefully in the morning don’t get up to quick because that dog ugly women is still looking beautiful and your still ■■■■■■ as newt, and never administer to children under 40 years of age, If they fuelled a super tanker on it, it would go that fast you would be able to water ski behind it. Vive La France …Vive La Calvados…… hic… now where did I put that bottle…hic.
Ossie
If the stomach was a bit dodgy with a bug the Calvados will kill the germs.
