my username indicates why I want to be back home soonest
m54 route, but you can’t use all the A5, it has a weight limit. you need the A483/A463 something like that.
I’m from Rhyl and in the past 12 months have been commuting every week to either Birmingham or Market Drayton and has done all routes. Assuming your in a truck, if your a foot to the floor man then its probably the A41 but watch out for camera van who likes to sit anywhere from Tern Hill up to and including the Whitchurch bypass. The A51 (M6 J16) can be quick as well if your light and at night as there are more roundabouts and a couple of cameras. Sticking to the limits then your probably best off as chester says and going A5/A483 but watch out for camera van from Shrewsbury up to Chirk.
M1, M6, M56, A55.

Depends on the time of day, but I’m like you Mike-C, keep it simple, but I won’t sit in traffic if it can easily be avoided, so between 4 and 6pm I’d be off up the 41.
a41 ok but if you get stuck behind a culina wagon your knackerd.
I looked at the A41 on the map and non of it was duel carrage way just single track
is it a stright road with no villages to pass through?

Villages, intersections, speed limits, speed cameras, round abouts, bends …

All depends what time you are going and how you drive lol. A41 is my choice and also the choice of a lot of Irish trucks. As mike says as well though, culina and a few other firms from that area all run at speed limits so you could end up stuck behind one.
As I run out of wrexham, I would go m6, m56 and then a55. A41 or a483 takes longer.

Last time I went up the A5 there were no weight limits just black advisory signs sending you up the 483/55. The A5 is a bit bendy and narrow in places but has lovely scenery
