just before J6 M25 today and we hit a jam towards the roadworks section,i thought what now another accident probably, sure enough there was,but on the other side,as soon as we got to it everybody started accelerating, the reason for our side jamming to a crawl was rubberneckers, they really need to sort themselves out its not as if they have not seen accidents before
I hardly bother looking at accidents now because I’ve seen so many & I’m just not that interested.
Shame they can’t make those barrier screens law at fatals. That’d teach the douche bags.
A 8ft high wall on the central reservation would be even better
I was in a queue once because of an accident that was on our side of the motorway and we had to pass it on the hardshoulder and when i got to the scene we were doing about 20mph when the car in front of me stopped !! …to have a look
i wanted to get out the cab to give them a good slap !!

Amen.
There was a suggestion some years ago that would stop rubbernecking & also stop vehicles being able to cross the central reservation at the same time and that is using earth to build a bank between the carriageways, steep enough that nobody could launch themselves over the top and it would be a lot more forgiving on vehicles on impact.
I don’t remember where I heard/read it but there is a reasonable argument for it.
Collision on the M8 west bound between jct 5 Shotts and 6 Newhouse, miles of traffic. Finally got past the collision and looks across to the other side (east bound) and a huge queue as well… Wonder why
On my way home shortly after on the M74 north, there was a notice on one of the over head signs “Accident A8 East after A725 Shawhead” (or something like that) these idiots rubber necking probably had something to do with this accident also

i actually sent an e mail to the highways agency suggesting they try that,as soon as an accident occurs the screens come up on that particular section so nobody can see it,i knew it would cost millions but they spend millions on the motorway anyway, their reply was they are going to bring in mobile screens for such a thing but by the time they arrive its too late as rubberneckers would have stopped everybody so they can look

That’s true enough but at least the que that is already there wouldn’t be able to ogle the carnage & sometimes they’re their all day for fatals.
I remember years ago on the M6, on the hill between the M42 and Corley, there were what looked like little plastic paddles bolted to the barrier, maybe 18 inches in height and spaced a few feet apart. They screened the other side completely unless you looked directly 90 degrees across. They were sited in other places too but those are the ones I remember.
Bloody good idea I thought
those plastic things were to prevent the plonkers coming up the other carriageway on full beam from dazzling you . the rubberneckers would come to a stop while they squinted through the slats .
If they can’t see the accident is there in the first place they’d carry on whizzing by.
I don’t think most do it on purpose, if you see blue lights in the distance, you natuarlly come off the gas.
so make its so the plastic things can be turned to block all view threw them, would only take the HA or plod 10 mins and would save millions in lost time
