RTC Thelwall

Sketchy details at the moment, but it appears a heavy has gone off the top of Thelwall.

There’s no news of what’s happened other than it involves a lorry but it looks like there are serious traffic holdups in both directions.

It’s been closed, not sure if it’s in both directions.

Hopefully the driver got out ok, it’s a hell of a drop.

From the Echo.

According to Cheshire Police, the lorry driver is not believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries

He’s been extremely lucky then!

Very very lucky, needs to get a lotto on asap

Very Lucky

The latest update from the Manchester Evening News at 20:56 says the driver had to be rescued by the fire brigade and was rushed to hospital but is not thought to have life threating injuries.

Fire crews use rescue equipment used to save HGV driver as 1,000 litres of biodiesel leaks from fuel tank

Fire crews used specialist rescue equipment to save the HGV driver after the collision this evening.

They have been rushed to hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, police have said.

Around 1,000 litres of biodiesel also spilled from the fuel tanks of the vehicle in the collision.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) that had left the carriageway of the M6 northbound between Junction 20 and 21, close to the Thelwall Viaduct.

"On arrival, they found that a HGV had left the carriageway and overturned on an embankment. Crews used technical rescue equipment to lower themselves and reach the casualty, who was handed over to the care of attending paramedics.

"Crews have applied water to cool the HGV and are using bunding to contain a leak of approximately 1000 litres of bio-diesel from the fuel tanks of the vehicle.

“While the carraigeway was fully closed, lanes one and two have been re-opened by Cheshire Police and the Highways Agency.”

Heavy rain, lots of surface water, lots of spray and low visibility combined with people driving too close and a lot of Timid Timothys in cars doing a lot of stupid in that area last night. Probably took evasive action because a Timid Timothy up ahead slammed on the brakes when a lorry passed them.

All barrier works and clean up completed and all lanes fully open, they have done well really to have it completed for now in my opinion, truck will be recovered using local roads :+1:

Tongue in cheek, he could have been trying to do a U-turn onto the other carriageway :face_with_peeking_eye:

Or was he delivering air mail  :rofl:

But…But…

Link to Cheshire police video, truck going through barrier right at the beginning, dark hard to see.

Lucky, a few hundred metres later would of been in the ship canal.

I think if it was a few hundred metres more he’d of landed on the A57 Mcr Road , styled it rigjt out, maybe a few hundred back hed be in the drink, v v lucky boy and as a driver cant really thank the efforts of all the servixes involved

Trailer still kinda works
Definitely a few lottery tickets for him, very lucky driver.

Says a lot for the Merc cab that he survived at all!
But where do they get 1000l of bio from? 400 tops in the unit’s tank and 200 for the fridge.

yep and they dont just spin the wheels as soon as there is the slightest sign of a very light drizzle

I think he won on that day.
