Royal mail south west rdc

Hi, I am being sent to Royal Mail South West road hub soon to drop some pallets off, I now its on Western approach Avonmouth, I am coming from Birmingham any good directions, and what are they like there?

It’s pretty easily accessible - no significantly narrow roads or tight turnings.

Come down M5. At Almondsbury Interchange (J15), head for M4 (South Wales) - approach in LH lane, then take right fork of LH lane at the interchange itself.

Exit M4 at next junction (J21) onto M48, signpost Chepstow.

Exit M48 at next junction (J1) and turn left onto A403, signpost Avonmouth. Don’t miss this exit - it’s the last one before the (old) Severn Bridge, which will cost you £14.30 in an LGV.

Cross over the M4, through the traffic light junction (speed + red light camera!), over the M49, then Western Approach Distribution Park is on the left, just after you crossed over the M49.

Turn into the park, then Royal Mail is on the right (I think, but by then you should be able to see them anyway.)

Newish, large RDC, lots of room to turn around etc. 1-way system around the building. Staff seemed friendly enough (only been there once, and that was on a Sunday, so it was very quiet.)

How’s that?

yeah it is still on the right… hehe couldn’t have put it any better!

Spot on mate. The other way in is to take the Avonmouth turning off the M5 before the bridge, and go through Avonmouth, the turning into the estate is on the right on a left hand bend with lights on. Watch it during the day as the area is tipper city :stuck_out_tongue:
Once you leave, turn left, and head for the M5, as there are numerous butty bars around there, I think there’s even one just outside the Royal Mail depot that’s not too bad.
Alternatively, once you get into the Avonmouth estate, there’s a turning on the left nearly opposite an Esso garage that heads up to the ERF dealers and the truckstop next door. That’s Avonmouth truckstop, and the food is better than Gordano’s or the Severn View’s (cheaper too, but not by much).
Keep an ear on Sally Travel as that area is renowned for holdups around the morning and evening rush-hours. If you’re there during those times, it’s probably best to head for the truckstop and take your 45 there, then head out right after.

I avoided the Avonmouth route, as it takes you past the Aztec West exit, which is traffic jam city at rush hour, plus there’s more lane changes, junctions, etc. and therefore more places to get lost. The M4/M48 route keeps you out of the way of most of the traffic jams.

Plus I’m not a fan of St Andrews Road - trying to go up a 4-lane single carriageway with lanes only about 9" wider than the truck isn’t fun, especially when another LGV decides to overtake :open_mouth:

Oh, and it’s further too.

However, if you want similarly detailed directions for this route, PM me.

Oh, and give me a wave as you go past the Almondsbury Interchange
