Just wondered if it’s worth applying or not, the starting wage is £12 per hour. Whereas I’m stuck on 9.25 an hour and I’ve got a wedding next July to pay for! But my employer paid for my license so I’d have to pay them off,
I’m not keen on nights out and I currently do the day shift, normally 7 til 7-ish
Would you owe gazillions to your current employer?
From afar, driving (class 1) for The Royal Mail looks like a cushy number.
If you don’t fancy nights out then make sure you don’t have to do 'em.
I was due to start with royal mail a couple of years ago but they could not offer me days at Swindon so went elsewhere,it sounds like agency but if you get in there it’s well worth it as they have to pay the same as their employed drivers after a period of 3 months (I think it’s 3 months)may well be 2 ,but if you get in there you are laughing, from what I have heard some of their drivers are on £40,000 + per annum, give it a go

As m1cks has said, it’s most probably via agency to cover Christmas pressure, so be careful.

Was this through agency? If there are driving jobs available, they go internally first. If there are any vacancies left after that, they will be given to the existing agency lads and lasses.
To get a decent set on earlies you would need over 30 years service.

You’ll have to learn to drive flat out everywhere you go don’t forget.

That surprises me as the duties are picked on seniority and earlies get grabbed by the senior men first. An agency driver would start with no seniority, they must have been very lucky.
At our place you need at least 30 years to get an early set.

Not everyone drives like that. If you’re going down to PRDC (mostly pulling into services) or up to SDC or Glasgow it can be tight. I drive at 86 mostly and leave the extra 2 km’s for overtaking.
