5 ways at mildenhall, then 4 ways on the roundabout on the 1303 on the A11 with the cafe that had all the grease hanging down the wall from the extractor? The Comfort?
Four wentways roundabout I think

Remembered today about the ‘Picture House’ (or ‘Cinema’) island on the A52 heading into Nottingham from Derby, many years ago now since the cinema was replaced by a filling station but the name stuck.
Pete.
If you had an early Marathon all roundabouts were called “Oh sh*t”.

Nice one Chris. In a few years time some drivers will think that The Ripley Pig was a brand of bacon.

The thought of her posing on the bench just up the road from Butterley Eng. has turned me off my breakfast
and probably off bacon forever.

I’m reasonably local and have never heard of that one! I obviously missed out on something there?

Ha ha,thas missed a treat Pete,a rayt glamour piece she was.Ripley Pig/Ripley Lil/Transistor Lil whatever, used to sup bottles of Guinness int Prince of Wales on A61 Butterley Hill going into Ripley. Many a wagon has been dented by a flying empty bottle when drivers, crawling up that hill int wagons, used to have a bit of “banter” with her when she were stood outside boozer.
For some reason she hated Sheffield BRS drivers, whether on nights or days.
Mmm, before my time then Chris as the A38 Ripley bypass was open when I started full time driving. If you haven’t been past Butterley recently you will have a shock as there is nothing left.
Pete.

Black Prince, on the A2. When I was a lad I only lived about half a mile away from there. In those days it was the Black Prince lights, it was the Rochester Way then. We even used to play on the road too, the traffic was quite sparse, just a few 3 Ton lorries up and down, very few cars
and of course the Lovely old AEC’s of the Bowater Paper Mills at Northfleet, great big 8 wheelers. I haven’t been on that stretch of road for years, I must make a point of going that way to Dover in the Summer.
Hi Archie, when you were a lad can you remember a pub called The Dover Patrol on the A2 somewhere on the right hand side heading south or was it still a coaching inn in those days.
Regards Steve.

G’Day Cobber,
How are you Blue ? Getting ready for the weekend Barbie, a couple of Shielas and a good few Schooners ?
Yes Steve I can remember the Dover Patrol on the Rochester Way at Kidbrook. Passed it many times on late night trips up to Covent Garden with my Dad. I never went in there though. I have even had to walk past there with an old tin ( Jam, Treakle, Paint ) with a paraffin rag in it alight, on the end of a stick and with one foot in the gutter, to lead the Van along in a Peasouper. Not too often on that part of the road because it was only partly built up in those days, but certainly in Deptford as you came down off of Blackheath Common. Or up the Old Kent Road. Which was only a couple of miles away.
Anyway yes I remember the Pub well, but I moved away from there in 1954 and have never been back. From what I understand it was pulled down sometime in the '70’s and is now a Housing Estate.

I remember a long time ago when one of Jakeys 8 wheeler AECs driven by old Davie Solomons approached this roundabout & slid straight on on some blackice & ended up head on into the embankment he was ok & minor damadge to the front of his cab, It got knicknamed Solomons Leap after by all his mates, We used to tease him a bit & have a good laugh about it, Regards Larry.

Still there as far as I know Barry, the ‘Weight Watchers Island’ (Wall Island) where the Lichfield/Shenston road crosses has changed a bit though!
