Rothwell Truckstop A14 J3

Seen some signs on the A14 at J3 this morning saying Rothwell Truckstop.
I’ve done some digging and it’s a new truckstop by welcome break.
Here’s some info about it.

Looking at the blurb…

From Welcome Break, they’re operating a booking system for parking lorries. It’s an interesting concept over here (I understand the USA has been doing it for years). I just pretented to book my imaginary lorry in for 11 hours and the charge came up as £15. The problems will arise when someone just parks in the slot that you’ve booked. Will they ignore it or clamp the offending truck?

There is also a gym listed as a facilty (it’s not operational yet). A good place for you roid-heads to grunt and get all sweaty.

Let’s hope it’s not stinking of urine by the end of the first week.

Bet Robroy won’t sleep there.

Just been in and had a look.
It will have 6 lanes of fuel pumps.
It is secure parking with about 20 spaces outside the fence, probably for short stayers.
The main building is still being fitted out.
I would say that there is parking for between 150 and 200 trucks.

Positive first… Parking for 250trucks, designed for trucks and drivers, nice n shiney showers…at least a company has decided to build facilities for us.

Negatives, Haven’t we seen this before, BP truck stops and Lymm, look how that went, then give it 6months and it will become another ■■■■ soaked, rubbish strewen Msa, the parking price will rise steadily, then they will reduce the size of the lorry park to accept cars and coaches… just another normally msa.

Such a ray of sunshine.

they will have prioritised truck parking to wangle the planning permission easier.
it go as above but enjoy when you can i suppose.

Ashford have a booking, you don’t get an allocated space, but they close it to trucks once all the spaces are booked, it also has a gym, apparently :open_mouth: not seen it though.

I love to think it’s a start of a new chapter for truck parking in the UK, but like other I fair it will end up a another service area, with a choice, if that’s the word, of fast food outlets.

I’m currently parked in this new services that fully opened this week.
Here’s some stuff about the site that I have noted.

Cost:-
£24 per 24 hours
£27 per 24 hours (£10 meal voucher)

Outside:-
Secure fenced off parking all round.
Around 250 parking spaces.
Fuel onsite but no fuel cards excepted yet until all the card terminals have been installed.
Separate area for fridges (About 25 spaces).
Washing machines (still to be plumbed in).

Inside:-
Shop.
Restaurant.
Bar.
Lounge. (With TV)
Gym.
Gaming area.
Toilets.
Showers. (Men 14) (ladies ?)

Food and Drink:-
Food is slightly over priced but not to bad.
Portions need to be bigger.
Hot beverages (well over priced).
Bar drinks (don’t know I dont drink).
Shop food (chocolate etc, over priced).

I’ve spoken to the manager as others have aswell about pricing and portions and they are listening to the drivers.
It’s the 1st week, so they’ve got to get themselves settled and listen to feed back.
All in all I think it’s a great site.

Interestingly, under “Attractions around us” it lists Twycross Zoo which, the last time I drove past it, was a couple of miles from the M42.

Unless they have moved Twycross it’s indeed on the A444 between Nuneaton and Measham lol
