roping and sheeting

harry_gill:
hiya,
I find when a post is getting a bit on the long side you know what’s coming and me personally just “fast forward” to the last bit, I am as guilty as anyone else about “adding on” but does it really matter it certainly doesn’t to me but I’m a bit ancient and being well retired I do have all day to do nothing unless her who must be obeyed find’s me something to do, and that would be every minute of every woken hour if she had her way.
thanks harry long retired.

Now then “H” you only quoted the shortened version !!! The full version is as follows------ " Her who must be obeyed ,at all times, without question" !! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Sorry Dennis.is that abridged sufficiently.
thanks harry long retired.

I realise what Glenman was getting at as it annoys me as well! When (some) folk use the ‘quote’ they put the whole of the previous posters text, and the the one before and the pics and so on, instead of just quoting the last text which you are responding to and deleting the rest. It gets a little tedious scrolling down half a page (and seeing the same pic and text again and again) to find that just one line has been added, some forums do not allow it but obviously this one does!
Not intending to cause upset you understand, just good forum etiquet.

Pete.

hiya,
Pete if Mr Glenman isn’t happy why doesn’t he air his grievances in a proper manner and not refer to crappy this and crappy that when the vehicles in question are far from deserving of that terminology if he ever saw them in their working days he would retract that statement, yes I saw them on many occasions and a tidier better maintained fleet would have been very difficult to find.
thanks harry long retired.

it’s us that are out of date harry , the modern way is to use abuse and scorn if they don’t agree , they would soon have learned different a few years ago i think . even when they agree the ignorance shows through " an old man with sense " . pete is only a lad yet , ageing maybe , but not old . if pete is old , what does that make you and larry ? rant over , me blood pressure won’t stand it , cheers , dave

Cheers for that comment Dave! Ageing rapidly I’m afraid, 61 in 6 weeks time but I have just renewed my HGV (oops, sorry, LGV) licence again, haven’t used it in nine years but you never know they might run short of ‘youngsters’ and need me back in the saddle!
As an aside to that, when I went to the quacks for my medical he asked if I would remember how to drive a lorry after all this time. I replied that it shouldn’t be a problem (as long as it was a 20 year old Foden  ) and he replied that when he has a holiday and returns to the surgery he worries that he can no longer do his job! :open_mouth: Think that I ought to change my doctor?

Pete.

Goodness Gracious Me, where in the f/// does he go for his holidays, I think your right get another Dr, but having said that you might get someone worse, because where I live they allways seem to be on holiday. Regards Larry

With this Doctor crack,Pete and Larry,I think I know what they were meaning,I have just been for my regular check up to prove I’m still alive !! And I saw the young lady GP at the surgery who had just returned from maternity leave and she commented on the fact that if they are only off for a week or so everything is changing that fast in the NHS they nearly have to go back to college for another course!! Cheers Dennis.

That flysheet would be a joy to remove with all that snow on it!! Did the curtainsider boys all rush to help ■■
I bet my boots they did. It always amazed me how they always found something very engrossing in the
paper when a bit help would have been very gratefully received. regards Kevmac47

Quite right Dennis, I think they must have the same crowd who keep moving the goal posts in the Haulage industry. Regards Larry

Lawrence Dunbar:
Dennis, what does crappy mean ? its definaterley not Bewick Gear, crappy in my book is , crap rates for R/T Loads, & then not getting paid for them, crappey crappey , is it an Irish word for good, Regards Larry

IIRC Glenman has “popped” up on previous occaisions on this site giving un-intelligent vent to something that he takes exception to.I think it usually is fired up as a result of over imbibing on the amber nectar !! But this last outburst would appear to be rather more deep seated,as I think he has a hatred for ERF’s possibly as a result of been unable to master the driving of one !! And well,as for sheeting and roping, that is just a “bridge too far” for the Boys on the other side of the Irish Sea,it is/was a craft that they have never been able to master, thats why they gave up in the end and just welded a 40ft ISO box onto a Dennison chassis !!! Just my opinion others may choose to differ and put photographic evidence on to prove their point ! Cheers Dennis.

Are Browns still going Brian,I remember them out of Barnsley.

No roping and sheeting at Stobarts, it’s curtainsiders only as they are more efficient.

hiya,
All curtainsiders are you “as an expert” absolutely certain.
thanks harry long retired.

Just as well then ESF as 99% of their drivers couldn’t use sheets and ropes !!! Bewick.

i bet they don’t carry scrap paper on a tautliner , they would only get half a load on . what do they do when the load is 1 foot longer than the trailer , oops 30 centimetres , they don’t do feet and inches do they ? if you showed them a proper lorry now they would be off work with stress . oh dear i can’t drive that , it hasn’t got a fridge or a microwave . it’s pitiful the state of things now , i’m glad we were drivers and not "truckers " dave

Well said, & very true, I wonder if this ESF Geazer can tell us what sort of wagons ESL had in the seventies I recall S 80 Foden Tipper , Regards Larry

Who ■■■■■■■ cares!? I’d rather see a well roped and sheeted load than seeing a curtainsider any day of the week. Take your eddie arse licking to the stobart threads and stop spamming every thread with that ■■■■,

I could only wish that I could find somewhere to learn this dying art. Any idiot can work a curtainsider, it takes real skill to rope and sheet a load down, but then again you’d know ■■■■ all about that being a stobart fan and all :unamused:

No Stobarts have never had any Fodens in their fleet unless you have a photo of this Foden S80!
