I’m having a 'deal of trouble weighing up where your “coming from” ddrbsn,I really am !!! Have you been a driver or were you an office wallah that has never done the job? Where did you buy your sheets from, the local builders merchants? sounds to me like all they were good for was covering a pile of bricks on a building site mate!! I never believed in parking cars among HGV’s for obvious reasons, nothing to do with a driver bearing a grudge!!! and yes I did buy teas and breakfasts and lunches and dinners and pints and fish and chips and pies and ------- all in the spirit of “goodwill” you understand and I didnt mind in the least I can honestly say !! if I had done I would just have avoided the cafes and truck stops period. But there was no substitution for getting “in among 'em” regularly, ear to the ground ect.ect. I fully realise that I grew up in a different Transport enviroment to that which exists to-day,but from what I gather from to-days participants boy am I glad I’m out of it !!! Health warning, don’t take personal offence to any of my comments,it’s only my opinion which dosen’t count for much nowadays !!! Cheers Dennis.
Hi Dennis …Never had to buy sheets always had to rely on the ones provided and boy have I had to handle some crap. Even been told to use sheets in for repair “as we know you will have no problem”, must admit to having enjoyed the challenge. I once worked for a Hull firm that acquired some ship cargo hatch covers, they were about twice as heavy as normal sheets and only had a tie string at each corner. Best sheets were when I worked for Chapmans of Bradford, who had their own sheet loft, so no not a office wallah. Just a common or garden lorry driver with 47 yrs in. Im just one of those irritating people who likes to put the other side to an opinion or argument. Ive even upset other drivers, Ive worked with, for putting over the bosses side of a dispute. So no Im really not taking anything personal. The cafe comment was just a bit of tongue in cheek ribbing, in fact you come over as someone who would buy the teas, if asked.
As for the environment today no thanks, I think we had the best. I really enjoyed getting out of bed and going to work, if you could call it that, as I was having such a great time. Even though a lot of loads were hand ball or barrowed on/off, especially at the docks. Was quite happy coming out of the pub, at the top of the depot street, and seeing lads loading night trunk going and giving a hand till finished.

I think we’d better put the “test card” on and call it a day “H” unless the recent contributor has something better to put on for us to look at!!! Is that silence we can hear,or abuse?

Dennis, what does crappy mean ? its definaterley not Bewick Gear, crappy in my book is , crap rates for R/T Loads, & then not getting paid for them, crappey crappey , is it an Irish word for good, Regards Larry
I realise what Glenman was getting at as it annoys me as well! When (some) folk use the ‘quote’ they put the whole of the previous posters text, and the the one before and the pics and so on, instead of just quoting the last text which you are responding to and deleting the rest. It gets a little tedious scrolling down half a page (and seeing the same pic and text again and again) to find that just one line has been added, some forums do not allow it but obviously this one does!
Not intending to cause upset you understand, just good forum etiquet.
Yeah, know what ya saying Pete, but I think the trouble is some chaps just don’t know how to do that, and the older you get the harder it is to sort these things out! Took me a time to sort that bit and sometimes have to scratch me head to remember how to do different stuff I’ve learned in the past! Maybe a sticky somewhere would help! or some information like we had for putting photos on would be good. I’m sure it would be helpful to many and can’t see anyone would take offence.
hiya,
I find when a post is getting a bit on the long side you know what’s coming and me personally just “fast forward” to the last bit, I am as guilty as anyone else about “adding on” but does it really matter it certainly doesn’t to me but I’m a bit ancient and being well retired I do have all day to do nothing unless her who must be obeyed find’s me something to do, and that would be every minute of every woken hour if she had her way.
thanks harry long retired.
