Yes ,it was Gaz,it was a 3.0 Consul GT actually, quite a “lively” motor in it’s day.It was '74 model ex demo with about 2000 miles on the clock when I bought it.It was manuel g/box,I swapped it for a new Ghia auto which I liked far better !Cheers Dennis.

A shot of the new Granada Ghia I got in Oct '75,early morning shot not far from where we transhipped the Bowater Scott load.I was on my way to the Barrow mill to do a days shunting, loading 4 or 5 flats for our trunks to the south east mainly their RDC at West Thurrock.
This a shot of the first 38 tonner we put into operation in April '83,shot here on the layby A590 near to J36 at Crooklands.Loaded with 25 ton of reels from Henry Cookes Beetham mill.

Very tidy too Dennis, they dont come any smarter do they mate, its nice to look back at the real stuff, Regards Larry
I sheeted and roped that one my-self Larry ! New sheets are never the best to use,a bit stiff with all the proofing, and a new set of nylon ropes are not the best either are they ! Cheers Dennis.
Quite right Dennis, but we dont see too many well sheeted loads today, New sheets & ropes had to be brocken in as you well know, hard on the hands & the arms but we allways tried to make a good job of it, because it was nice to look in the shop windows when in traffic & admire ones own work, like going allong Princess Street in Edinburgh just as it was getting daylight, Happy Days Eh, Regards Larry.
when i started driving that was it roping and sheeting was all there was and the firm i worked for J AND C FINNY must have got the big’s sheets he could find just two sheets for 40 pallets of bottles with sheet to spare but the best thing i ever seen was a young driver loading wine at greenford put the sheets on ok then got long planks of timber and nailed the sheet down both sides and a bit of rope at the back …of he went job dunn i wonder if it got to the customer ■■? posting.php?mode=reply&f=35&t=45587#
very nice mr aussie
but sorry mate its not the real thing, am i right dennis ?
the same practice is used in europe
it just goes to show how great the british drivers are or should i say were with the odd exceptions,
anyway its monday again let the s**t commence
cheers
Just to keep the “curtain pullers” on their toes !! a shot of a loaded trailer standing in the depot at Milnthorpe, sheeted and roped to the highest standard and ready to roll !
Very funny “fly sheet” however I could imagine some of “fast eddies” wallies turning out a sheeting and nailing down job like this,if of course, they hadn’t had a 3 month course of intensive training by their own qualified instructors who would have only read about the craft in an old copy of headlight !!! They would then have been taught to nail the battens on a bit tidier like !!! Cheers Bewick.
hiya,
Dennis maybe there’s still hope for my R & S acadamy, and after
seeing some of the “efforts” on here they would be getting value
for money and thanks to Dave the Renegade and Jack Graham I
could, with all their imput to my email account teach them how
to do a stand -up comedy routine, could fit that in during the bait
time. again at additional cost, not made a million just yet but just
watch this space.
thanks harry long retired.
Truly shocking nailing the sheets on, I’d never seen anything like it before. I have noticed its the same here as it was at home years ago theres them that care & them that really don’t, most of the lads on the “B” trains seem to have a good ethic & are well turned out…
Is your roping & sheeting school gonna be global Harry??

Hiya,
Well “fly sheet” at age very very nearly 76 years of age I don’t know
how far I’m going to branch out, but on a good day i can manage to
get from the front door to the end of the drive all of at least going
on for seven yards, so the world’s hardly my oyster is it ■■, maybe I
could do it by “correspondence course” like the Open University.
thanks harry, long retired.
Harry 76 is young enough I heard a bloke of 96 had just passed a phd on the world service the other night, maybe you need to set up a university on line course for all the baggy sheet brigade!!! Just keep shouting “keep it tight” on a constant recording…
