your right there LB76, sheets were a lot easier to handle if you used the ties to secure them after the were rolled.

Yes gents fully agreed tightly rolled secured by the ties was the way,im sure you have all experienced the times you have picked trls were the previous driver either thro inexperience or bone idleness has left the sheets in a loose heap, not funny eh?

M/t trailer rank at Milnthorpe depot, all sheets rolled tight !!! When I was on the Octopus and trailer in the 60’s we carried about 8 sheets and they had to be rolled up like “cigars” and were placed across the timbers behind the headboard and then they covered with a small tail sheet and roped securely.Cheers Dennis.
hiya,
On one occasion i did a load of furniture (flat pack) to an American air force base on arrival the motor was parked at the unloading point and I was taken to a rest area and the motor was unsheeted and unloaded by the “naughty boys” from the guard room (the nick) and when returning to get signed up and leave all that was needed was to throw my short piece of rope over the sheets and drive to my next job great you may think and it was until I tried to sheet my next load, they’d folded my sheets in the over and over again method and what a job I had it had to be windy and the load was a two pallet high load for part of the load, bleedin nightmare throwing the things out, Yanks!!!

Yeah, there’s another nightmare I’d forgotten about - taking over a wagon after some other selfish [zb] had dumped the sheet on the back of the lorry in a tangled half ton mess of wet canvas and ties, some still with half undone hitches in them. Yeah no worries mate, I’ve got nothing better to do than spend half an hour sorting your mess out

One has to comment on why were they all empty Dennis?
David
Looks desolate dosen’t it David !! But that was only a fraction of our ,then, trailer fleet and if I’d swung to the right and taken another shot of the loaded rank it would have put it all in perspective I’m sure !!However, you’d be surprised that within an hour or so most of those trailers would have disappeared to load at various customers.I have a shot of the depot somewhere that IIRC there is one tractor standing and,I think,an m/t 33footer in the distance, every piece of equipment is committed and we had no reserves !! From memory we ran with a ratio of 1 unit to circa 2.75 trailers and believe me at times we needed every trailer we had, apart from those going through MOT. Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Dennis my good man would you be kind enough to ask the yard man to nip over and roll that sheet over just one more time it is rather standing out and giving an appearance of shoddiness, there’s a good chap, thank you.

You must mean me then “H”,I was always scrounging round the yard !!! Alternatively,if you enlarge the shot at your end the offending trailer will disappear ! and besides it’s ■■■■■■■ down here and the Fish and Chips have just arrived so I’m staying put in the canteen or one of these greedy scroats will eat them for me !! Or,of course, you could get off your “arse” and do it yourself if it is bothering you that much ! I’ll give your chips a spin the Microwave------ Where’s the HP sauce ? “H” will throw a wobbly if there’s no HP !! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Job done Dennis, us elderly gadges divvant need asking twice, long walk back to Chester le Street, I did have the game on climbing on the trailer though. Will eat the “jockey’s whips” as I trudge my weary way homewards and they are liberally covered in HP sauce to keep the cold out.
thanks harry long retired

Looks as if the idle sods could not be bothered sheeting these loads but at least they are loaded tidy and the roping is fine ( it needs to be )
