Morning Pete. The Brayford Transport Foden has what looks like an AF reg plate which was Cornwall/Truro.If it’s RF it’s Staffordshire. If it’s neither it’s Specsavers for me.I thought it might be from Lincoln as there is a Brayford Pool in the city.

With the two Staffordshire Knots on the front panel Chris I would guess at that area? A smart truck though, but then so are all Fodens…

Wilsons were from Stockport, later Ardwick Manchester, they did a lot of East Anglian work.I used to pass them regular on Woodhead when heading back to Maltby on nights.I know one of their ex drivers,he now lives in Finland and drives for a Finnish company. Here’s a photo of him and his ERF when at Wilsons…

Hi Pete.
Fearns were from Dodworth,Barnsley and as well as running flats they ran several tankers, working for Staveley Chemicals amongst other chemical firms. The photo of the Fearn’s Foden is not mine,a contract wagon in SCL colours,it was used on crude benzene collections out of coking plants in the North East and Yorks/Derbys,which all went to Staveley Chemicals for refining. They also had several tankers on acid work.
He told me they were famous in the day for going over Woodhead Pass at a snails pace in their anachronistic motors while
the rest of the haulage community, that had actually come to terms with the 80’s, risked life and limb flying past! W.R. Wilson Transport Ltd.were originally from Stockport but later moved to Palmerston Street Ardwick Manchester
although a lot of the motors still ran around with the old Stockport address on them for ages.
The firm as a whole specialised in general haulage to the East Anglia region and London.
W.R. Wilson Transport Ltd. ERF Reg No JND 587F shortly after it had undergone a complete re-paint.

2Chris you will be referring to John-Paul Attwood who sent me a number of pictures back in 2009.

Yes Paul, that’s him,he is known as Zetorpilot on Trucknet. I did have a photo of the 6-wheeler ERF they had,did they run any artics,I never saw one. Like I said before,I used to pass them and Connell and Finnegan’s tippers early every morning, crawling over Woodhead.
Morning Chris and Paul,
Thank you for the information and photographs on Fearns and Wilsons, Wilsons must have been a pain over Woodhead with only 100 or 120 hp on tap, Cheer’s Pete
