I had a mirror clipped by some hero in lane 2 that straddled lane 2 and 3 to get unit past me then couldn’t care less when his trailer was still alongside me , since then I now stay in lane 2 in m1 Northampton roadworks , I’ve had flashes and horns and the odd finger wave but until they widen lane 1 I will be staying in lane 2
is lane 1 narrower than lane 2? that’s crazy if it is
I was down that stretch in those horrendous winds a couple of weeks ago. 4.8m high trailer with empty stillages on. I straddled lane 1 and 2 for 10 miles because of the wind mainly and managed to keep up with the traffic flow rather than slowing down too much and causing problems. So I was able to keep to 50 and most drivers understood what I was doing. If anyone came past then they were speeding so I wasnt moving too close to the verge for them. I also went over the elevated section of M6 near Wednesbury in that near hurracane. I swear the trailer wheels lifted on one side then the other. Scary stuff even without narrow lanes and roadworks.
One truck I followed was nearly blown into the crash barrier. I stopped in the services at Hilton Pk behind him and he told me his Truck was grossing 44t.

No! Although the metal kerb they’ve installed the whole length of the roadworks looks nasty if you clip it.
They built the entire m6 quicker than it has to sort this junction out■■?
Keep a metal bar window open and just smash there mirror before yours!
Works for me.

I commute up the A5 from Towcester to Hinckley and there is about a crash a week on the M1 on average, which causes chaos at Weedon. I went home down the M1 for a change the other day and the potholes on edge of hard shoulder are quite bad. From what I saw (including a car broke down that nearly resulted in a pile up) a lot of cars and vans are ignoring the 50 speed limit and driving aggressively. The lanes are very narrow for trucks, but in theory if everybody stuck to 50 mph there should not be any problems.
if they do more them 50 then they will be flashed be the cambra

One thing I would like to see as regards all roadworks is some enforcement on certain vans using the outside lanes when they are clearly indicated at 6’ 6". A lot of people need educating as to how wide the vehicles they are driving actually are.
I think a 3.5 Tone van would fall under the 6’ 6’’ (just)

Blokcing off there service enterys.
What is that when not in Chinglish? Bloke-ing their service entrails? ■■■■, I agree - definite ■■■ pest. Especially as they had to call the police to “remove you”.

Yes because weight = width?
Most transit type vans are over 7ft wide so shouldn’t be in the width restricted lane. Not something plod seems to care about.

Only if they average over 50 between the cameras, I don’t think they flash, so don’t know if trigger is set for a higher speed or not working or these people are getting caught

I would be intrested to know if anyone has ever been done by way of A 60 quid fine and 3 penalty poins for speeding through an avarage speed cambra

A bit off topic but relative to the subject regarding smart motorways. I was travelling South down the M6 last week by spaghetti junction, matrix signs flashing 50 then 40 then the red X on the hard shoulder and saying stranded vehicle just after spaghetti junction so obviously take it steady and stay out of the hard shoulder.
Now after we had cleared the obstruction the matrix signs had us back upto 50 using all 3 running lanes and the hard shoulder. As I was coming off for the M42 N/B I stayed in the hard shoulder and a few others were in it, I was behind another truck when all of a sudden harsh braking all over the shop and cars pulling over into other lanes at the last min. The reason? Another broken down vehicle on the hard shoulder just about 2-3 mile past the other one but yet the matrix signs had no inidication of telling us what lie ahead
Why put us back running on the hard shoulder if there was another broken down car there? It’s obvious they knew about it on the cameras otherwise they would’ve had everyone running to the speed limit and not showing 50mph on the matrix signs.
Could’ve been a whole lot worse and its lucky there wasn’t an accident
