Last night I’m trying to get to Harlow from Kent:
Dartford Tunnel is queueing from the moment the tolls are lifted - 10pm. (Scam?)
M25 on far side of the tunnel is closed 31-29. Everyone off at Thurrock then.
Down to the A406, and up the M11… Coned off to one lane Northbound! 30 minutes wasted…
Get upto J6 and it says “J7 exit closed.” So I reckon I’ll just pop off at J6 (J27) for the M25 westbound, and come back over bell common via J26…
Can no do - M25 closed from J27 to J25.
Steam coming out of my ears by this point, I get upto the J7 and as signed - it’s bloody closed for Harlow. Upto Stanstead then, and back on myself. 20 MILE detour.
Finally get into Harlow, get turned around, and now back towards J6 M11 again, heading for sussex. Sussex. Can’t go Clockwise M25 because it’s shut, and gantries are already warning “long delays J29-J31” because it appears that it, too, has been coned down to one lane just before the bridge.
So… Let’s go down the M11 back to the 405 then, and just nip down the storm drain A12 to the Blac…
“BLACKWALL TUNNEL SOUTHBOUND CLOSED”.
ARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
It’s as if the Highways Agency has managed to declare war upon us before NATO, Putin, or anyone else.
Someone needs to be strung up with piano wire for planning “closures upon detour routes” like this.
What ARE they bloody well thinking?
Hauliers should be billing the highways agency for wasted mileage, wasted time (that might cost the company rather than us, but hey - I don’t want to be made redundant by a bust company within a few months!)
and sheer inconvenience.
ALL of the above was about “Roadworks” rather than “Accidents” btw. There was a prang I saw on the canning town junction involving a maritime wagon, and a couple of two and three car shunts en-route - but nothing untoward for a normal midweek night inside the M25…
