In the last 2 years some of Spain’s motorways have had their tolls removed. This year should see tolls removed from some others including Barcelona to La Junquera. That’s the end of the good news unfortunately. The Spanish government is proposing a whole new range of driving changes such as urban speed limits down to 20 or 30kph.They are also suggesting introducing tolls on all Spain’s motorways, autovias and even some single carriagway stretches. An amount of 4c/km for cars and 14c/km for heavies has been put forward. That equates to around 15€ one way Madrid to Valencia.

Nothing better than driving on French roads, paid and unpaid
Maybe if the Dept of Transport in the UK spent some money from their revenue, your roads would be better.
I like driving in France for various reasons. Most roads there are as smooth as a snooker table. They should send a team of tarmac layers over to us to show our muppets how to do it.

France has the best motorway surfaces in Europe and the science is resonation and air pockets in the surface to reduce the noise so you feel like you are floating, this reduces fatigue.
British roads are also renowned for the air pockets that dot their sufaces

When I lived in Belgium the authorities claimed their roads were surfaced with “Vluister Asfalt” or “Whisper Ashphalt” to explain the quiet running.
