Road marking m6 m42 toll road

Hi all

When travelling m6 northbound the first blue motorway the signs indicate that

Lane 1 = m42 south, m6 north
Lane 2 = m6 north, m42 north, toll road this is ok
Lane 3 = m6 north, toll road

The sign just before toll road split indicates that

Lane 1 = m42 south, a446
Lane 2 = m42 south, m6 this is ok
Lane 3 = m6 north, m42 north, toll road

And the sign after the toll split indicates

Lane 1 = m42 south, a446
Lane 2 = m42 south, m6
Lane 3 = m6

This effectively gives you one and a half lanes for either the m42 or m6 (this is what done with m42/m40 and m42/m5 junctions )

In the bracketed example the road marking reflect what is on the road signs not much of a problem too most drivers

Unfortunately as soon as you leave the 'new roadworks ’ the road marking reflect the old road layout

Over the past few weeks it had become apparent that the lane would should be in would change. Some of us, foreigners included had

started to use the new lanes.

The problem lies with those who stay in lane 1 and continue on the m6 northbound. The signs say don’t. The road marking say its ok…

No problems until someone in lane 2 heading for the m42 south confronts the vehicle in lane 1 trying to go north.

I feel this is an important safety issue which needs to be addressed now

I know what you mean Hitch, I see this sign every day showing the new layout for the junction, but as you say the road marking show otherwise. I can only assume that there are plans (I hope so) to remark the junction. As this is a busy part of the road I suspect that an overnight closure will need to be done to re-mark the road.

You’re only just up the road from me, I’m in Nuneaton.

Go to Bedworth every night so when i noticed the Toll road was fully open i ( stupidly ) assumed that the road markings would now go with the signs,
like you say above this has got to be a road safety issue, it won’t be long before there is a bad accident because of this.

i sent out about 10 emails regarding this. some bod from birmingham
mail rang but he said he had driven road and didnt know wot i meant doh
highways agency replied and said this was going to be done wednesday night …apperently it hasnt

to calv i used to be a paul martin driver …now centurion logistics or d taylor as were in there yard

What a muppet i was last night talk about autopilot

How was i to know, plodding up the M6 last night, all of a sudden i come to a R/bout, they have only gone and put the road markings down now, :open_mouth: and me straight up the slip road, thought it had gone quiet.

Mitch I noticed the road markings had been changed by Friday morning. Should be OK now.

Regarding Autopilot DAFMAN I saw the Warsaw to Manchester coach yesterday afternoon who had managed to reach the A446 Belfry Island and who had decided to stop and find out where the M6 had gone!!

Think he was heading up the toll but got in the wrong lane at M42 J9 and ran out of motorway.

Plenty traffic on the toll yesterday as I was up and down the A5/A38 all day. No UK trucks noted yet but some foreigners have made it. Still they’re used to it

Merry Christmas everybody

i have seen the new layout and i am not impressed…
out with the csmera over the holiday

as a brummie and useing this stretch of motor way,yes it is confising,i think its a cunning plan to get people on the troll road by mistake and reliving them of cash to leave it at the first troll booth… :astonished:

I should think for most car drivers it is very confusing, both North and South the two outside lanes continue straight on, on to the Toll road, with only an arrow pointing to the left , but it does not say on the floor M6 left. Seems a bit of a coincedence to me, the signs totally confuse a lot of drivers.

Sunday it was not to busy yet there were cars going on to the toll road, why.
