Hi all
When travelling m6 northbound the first blue motorway the signs indicate that
Lane 1 = m42 south, m6 north
Lane 2 = m6 north, m42 north, toll road this is ok
Lane 3 = m6 north, toll road
The sign just before toll road split indicates that
Lane 1 = m42 south, a446
Lane 2 = m42 south, m6 this is ok
Lane 3 = m6 north, m42 north, toll road
And the sign after the toll split indicates
Lane 1 = m42 south, a446
Lane 2 = m42 south, m6
Lane 3 = m6
This effectively gives you one and a half lanes for either the m42 or m6 (this is what done with m42/m40 and m42/m5 junctions )
In the bracketed example the road marking reflect what is on the road signs not much of a problem too most drivers
Unfortunately as soon as you leave the 'new roadworks ’ the road marking reflect the old road layout
Over the past few weeks it had become apparent that the lane would should be in would change. Some of us, foreigners included had
started to use the new lanes.
The problem lies with those who stay in lane 1 and continue on the m6 northbound. The signs say don’t. The road marking say its ok…
No problems until someone in lane 2 heading for the m42 south confronts the vehicle in lane 1 trying to go north.
I feel this is an important safety issue which needs to be addressed now
