Road building

Didn’t take long for labour to scrap some of them. Just like Blair did when he got to power.

But at least BR will be nationalised again :monkey::soccer:

I wouldn’t hold your breath if I was you, just wait for the excuses

Yep, Labour starting as they mean to go on, steadily laying the foundations for blaming the last lot for everything. Had COVID and Ukraine occurred under a Labour government then we would be in a far worse position than we are now.

I look forward to the new BRS mk2 .— better go now -good day all !.

I aint a Labour supporter by any means, but I kinda agree on them stopping the winter fuel payments to the more wealthy pensioners (reaches for tin hat )
I think the likes of Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger will get by without freezing to death this winter.

On other hand they should also (and more so) target all the freeloaders to recoup a bit of cash, lets start with turning a few dinghies back round…
yep ok, I know, every opportunity.

They’re penalising poor pensioners. Unless you get pension credit or a means tested benefit you will not get the winter fuel allowance. The state pension is not means tested.

So what this means is:

Pensioner A: Owns their own home, gets the full state pension of £227 a week with no other income. Not entitled to winter fuel allowance.

Pensioner B: Gets pension credit of £218 a week, just £9 a week less than Pensioner A. They’re entitled to the winter fuel allowance. If they’re renting they’ll also get housing benefit and council tax benefit so their total weekly income including those benefits could be double that of Pensioner A but they still get the winter fuel allowance.

And it gets even more unfair. Pensioner B is entitled to a free TV licence and free prescriptions. Pensioner A isn’t. So Pensioner A not only ends up being no better off and in fact poorer than Pensioner B but they now don’t even get the winter fuel allowance.

Ok…but I did say I ‘kinda’ agree with it, but obviously on principle rather than the depth, and the examples that you refer to.
That is why I mentioned the likes of Rod Stewart as an example of a ‘wealthy pensioner’ if you take my point.
Maybe on reflection there are many exceptions.

The irony is that the majority of the £20Bn shortfall could be met by not sending money abroad as overseas development money to help foreign countries

I agree, it’s right to help poorer countries with foreign aid but our own country and people should come first.

About a third of the UK “Overseas Aid” budget goes on housing for asylum seekers inside the UK.
Some other funds go to UK firms to send goods abroad.

Will making conditions worse in refugee camps in Turkey etc mean more, or fewer, refugees will stay in their home areas or move to more affluent areas of the world?

I agree with that.
Give to the needy in the UK before those in need abroad.
But don’t give more to the already rich in the UK, before those needy ones abroad.
