Hello.
I’m glad to see a tribute to Edward Stobart, The King of British Trucking. I know Stobart is liked by all, (I’m a Eddie Spotter by the way), but what Stobart did for the ■■■■■■■■ Trucking Industry and the National Image of Trucking is something that will never, never happen again. Yes, Stan Robson, Carlisle’s First Trucking Hero did they haulage industry a lot of good, but Stobart cleaned up the industry before the reputation of British Trucking got any worse. Stobart’s HQ in ■■■■■■■ employs over 2,000, and if Stobarts weren’t there, the gap left in the local area would be devastating, through money not coming in from employees and the tourism gap left from Eddie Spotters not visiting the Home of Stobart in ■■■■■■■■
I know some people would like to see Stobart’s go from the UK Trucking Scene, but let me remined them if it did, ■■■■■■■■ and Britain would be a poorer place.
Let’s prase Eddie Stobart & Edward Stobart, the ■■■■■■■■ Trucking Heros.
Rest in peace, RIP Edward Stobart, A True ■■■■■■■■■
The bit in brackets probably wasn’t necessary. Your first sentence gave the game away somewhat. The second sentence is the funniest, the third sentence is nearly as funny as the second and the fourth starts off ok but then goes downhill after the word “devastating.”
Thanks though, just about the funniest thing i’ve read on here for a while, even more so as I know you weren’t even joking when you posted it.
Superb
Thanks everyone for there kind remarks on what I posted. Please, Please let me remind people that if it wasn’t for Stobart, we wouldn’t have a desent, yes desent, haulage industry today.
Thanks for Stobart, we’ve got a clean, reliable & remarkable British Haulage Industry!
(P.S. Bewick, I take it your not a Stobart Spotter?)

Not an entire episode. I saw a bit of one, I thought it was meant to be a documentary but its obviously a comedy show. It just needs Vic Reeves doing the narration to top it off really
Did anyone notice how the driver said that the winds on the Severn bridge can go at 100 times the normal rate to blow wagons over,if the wind was 10 mph,or 20,30,40,50,60,70,that is a tornado or a hurricane.

You are talking a load of cobblers CG,you have obviously had “the operation” and been re-programmed" to spout all things Stobart! By the way you are talking Stobarts invented the wheel! Anyway keep taking the tablets mate(they’er only Smarties!) but they keep you “believing”! Question, when is the “fast one” going to re-appear,he’s taking his time isn’t he! Well, back to the “stone age” where I come from! Cheers Bewick.
I take exception to the view that Stobart is responsible for the “decent” state of the industry today. I started in transport in 1968 and the first thing I recieved was a company uniform. In 1972 I went to work for Waugh’s (N/cle) the following year we all were issued with
uniforms and also a company pension was introduced (with an employers generous contribution). Our fleet maintenance schedule was unsurpassed by anyone due to the wizardry of the fleet engineer Ian Forrest, who was very much a hands on fitter. I later went on to work for the Onward Group, again uniform, decent pension, first class maintenance at the main depot, with every thing including vehicle paintshops onsite. Ps. The job nowadays is nowhere near as happy as it was when I started ,there is no cameraderie everyone sits in the cab at night instead of having a beer and a chat, (me included) in fact if I knocked on someones door now and asked them if they were going for a walk to the pub I would probably be thought of as gay looking for a pickup.
There’s no denying Stobarts are successful now, but at what cost. Eddie has left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. They employ a lot of people NOW, but how many people have they put out of work over the years? Stobart rode rough shod over the transport industry in his early days and anybody who got in his way, went to the wall. Kevmac47 started in the mid 60’s and got a good life out of road transport, I started a bit earlier and also got a (Very) good life out of the job. We were always required to be “presentable”, we got into what has turned out the be a very decent pension scheme.
Again, it’s my opinion, but the TV series does nothing for the transport industry. All my old mates that I talk to have the same opinion, the usual comment is "what a set of *******. Bloody fringed curtains , flowers, and pink hairbands.
Theres not only Stobarts trucks that have fringed curtains etc take a look at some of the photos of the ones that go to the truckshows that have been posted on here.To me it shows that there are still some lads out there who still take a pride in their trucks and you cannot fault them for that or even blame Eddie for it.

And that’s just the blokes…
I don’t do this attacking of Stobarts but as for being the only company who did x, y, and z
We were wearing company uniforms with shirt & ties long before them, we had corporate outdoor workwear, boots, overalls and the trucks were painted and signwritten nicely, not shrinkwrapped.
I am not sure if we had spotters, but we did have some great comments from the factories we loaded from.
At the time myself and the other drivers invented a mmtm to suit ourselves, we suggested that wearing a tie with a spinning cargo compressor was dangerous, it would have been if you were crawling under the truck whilst discharging
On the other hand I have never seen any proof that ESL worked for nothing, only tales from the unexpected in the transport cafe.
If a company run a 3pl 4pl or even 7pl operation that is the way of the world, the company do the warehousing, the transport, the administration and probably even stock ordering and sales, but to the client it will be one invoice, the haulier will introduce his own cost centres within the group, ABC Trailer Hire, ABC Garages, ,ABC Driver Recruitment, ABC Transport, and ABC Storage etc. The guy in the transport cafe hears this and then repeats to his mate that this company do not charge for transport because they get all the warehousing work.
I never really understood algebra, it is much like KPI. Every company wants the management to understand it, every company has wall space covered by charts and graphs. Someone somewhere a geek will be wetting their pants studying graphs of how many widget failures they had last month, or how many staff members are pregnant.
The old school haulier had a stack of tyres in the shed, they knew when one went missing, they bollocked the driver when he scuffed a tyre or ran over a bolt, but the profit and loss account then was the difference between money coming in and money going out. Much the same as today!

Debatable and relative to what. They cleaned up Road Haulage with the intruction of the Shirt & Tie & Clean Lorries.
See above post, our client was Marks and Spencers and they asked for ties. They got people spotting lorries (Don’t say it Bewick, Robson’s got there first).
There are many BRS, Bryan Harris and Brady spotters around, some even in ■■■■■■■■They help Charities and support Local Comunitiy Group’s (e.g Stobarts raised over £1m for the West ■■■■■■■ Flood Fund).
Charities that they use to advertise their own haulage business, like Flora marathon much healthier than Mars Confectionery doing it.They employ over 5,000 Staff (over 2,000 in ■■■■■■■■ which in county like ■■■■■■■■ jobs are scarce)
Some say they have cost 2000 jobs in the North of England. They give us a desent bit of Friday Night TV!
Doctor Who on BBC3They what to do good in counties like ■■■■■■■ with the development of Carlisle Airport
Its a 90minute journey from Newcastle, Glasgow and possibly even Manchester.Andrew Tinkler and William Stobart promote the Best of British Trucking & Logistics
Andrew and William promote themselves, at Polo matches with royalty to governments, MP’s and Pop Stars.Eddie Stobart is an inspire many people to go into Business

I neither like or dislike the man. I never met him, but his death was certainly untimely. This is an obituary for Edward after all.
