all that tells me is that the drivers kept their jobs because they were struggling to find and keep drivers due to their (all office staff, not just RL himself) aggressive attitude
It sounds like a decent job, work-wise, with legal kit, but there’s never an excuse for treating people in the ways mentioned above, nobody should have to be filled with fear when they drive into the yard. I wouldn’t talk to people like that.
I know nothing about richard long or his company apart from what’s been wrote on here or what the driver I spoke to has told me. But where does the fear of richard come from ? Is he just a verbal bully or also a hard knock ? All the stories on here about him saying this and that how come no one has ever put him on his rear end ?
The last time I worked for Longs was few years back now but one thing sticks in my mind. Had just finished securing a load in the yard and went into the office to speak to one of the decent lads Paul, Richard was on the phone and he thought we were talking to loudly so he shouted at us to be ‘■■■■■■■ quiet as I am talking to a customer’. I told him to stuff his lorry and stormed out slamming the door and shifted the truck into the parking area. This is the bit I shall never forget … Richard came out and APOLOGISED TO ME for shouting but he was under stress he said. So I put my gear back in the truck and went to France.
Best driving job I have had, apart from going to the yard that is.
According to the website they’re looking for a traffic co-ordinator “with excellent people skills”, maybe the message is getting through…

That’s good, because it sounds like the office staff uniform currently consists of a T-shirt with “Do I look like a ■■■■■■■ people person?” printed on the front.

Funny how companies change their tone when you turn round and tell em your off 
I only applied there as my son had previously worked out of the Saxham depot and I was at a loose end between ships, on telling my daughter in law she said ‘you wont last a week’ so had to prove her wrong, and I did !! 
There has been alot of rather interesting posts on this thread, believe me its not as bad as people make out, its a bit old school haulage but the money is there on time every time , alot more then the figures banded about on here.
If you are a driver with a head full of romantic dreams about European destinations , clogs and wallets on chains try somewhere else, Longs push you and you will earn good on it .
Give as good as you get and they will have respect for you , simple really aint it, its not for everyone , its hard work but the kit is good and I would go back tomorrow if I was younger and fitter

Just a quickie for the training department at said company please advise drivers in UK that unless otherwise marked whilst approaching a roundabout please give way to traffic from the right already on said roundabout - not like your driver whom I assume didn’t notice me on the roundabout A11 / A134 yesterday afternoon at 1530hrs ish - moron!!!

Ahh that roundabout is an akward one. Quite often the coast is clear to pull out then just as you go out someone comes around. The problem is you cant see over the roundabout to see whats comin and when you are out you are commited. They need to flatten the roundabout and clear vegetation off it.

Most of what is written in this thread is by people that don’t know Richard Long or his company.
Those that moan are probably the won’t do can’t do brigade.
It’s probably no wonder he gets wound up with drivers. From some of the comments on this and other topics anyone would get wound up.
