There not far from me, think i mite give them a try lol… Where do they ship from as i dont think i’ve ever seen them at harwich or felxstowe?

Is it legal running?

Used to be Dover or Newhaven as a rule or Hull for the heavy stuff IIRC, as for honest running … 100%, must have been cos I never got pulled for any infringements over rest hours or even when I lost a few cards.

Go on, call them, you know you want to …

I doubt i’ve got enough experience for them to take me on and the whole polishing the truck on a saturday afternoon isnt really my thing.

Don’t worry about that, just go in wearing a track suit and flip flops, look like you dont understand what thy’re saying, a wee dribble may help as well (shouldn’t be difficult as it’s Norfolk) and wallah ,… you’re on the pay roll

They don’t care for experience, they want folk that don’t have a home life. I passed my class 1, My mate told me to pop down. and richard Long was the first ever class 1 lorry I drove. 1 week in the yard learning how to strap stuff down their way, 2 weeks on farm work in Norfolk. Then off over the stream in a right hand drive. he was more interested in the amount of weeks i would work away when he found out I used to work at sea then he was about my driving skills or lack off.

As I’ve said before though, although he is a real nasty bit of work to graft for, the job itself is still one of the most interesting jobs i’ve ever had in haulage. I still miss the job side.

I only meet mr long once and I can confirm that it was an eye opening one , on arrival at his yard with a machine for onward transport to Europe ,(a machine I had longs deliver for me ) I walked into the office and was meet by mr long having a full on argument with his wife , words like "you stupid cow ,how told you to send him there you fat mare " , quickly followed by the telephone passing over her head and smashing up the wall !
What had she done you might ask ?
Sent a driver from one end of Europe to the other on a fools errand ?
No she had told one of the farm hands to go to one of the many fields they own to start harvesting !
I stepped outside the door until they calmed down , Richard joined me later and was down right rude to say the least, needless to say that was the last time I meet him .

So you are saying the company took money from your wages without your agreement?
I believe that is illegal ,contact your CAB office.

Oh Yes, i am in the process of bringing an action against them as i type, it might also interest everyone reading this that there are . 35 of the 118 drivers that R long went through last year who have come forward to join in with the action either with statements or proof of wrong doing by R longs. it will take months to piece together but it will be worth it because one way or another we all intend to put a very large dent in the arogant farmers piggy bank.
you have to admire anyone who can build a multi million pound business that leads its field of expertise, unless it is by climbing over every one that helps you acheive that goal.

I’m an ex driver fella, and although some stuff I have posted, there is a lot I have not. Sadly, the bits of headed paper i used to get given to carry, saying “This geezer was on holiday from and too, which is why he has no tacho’s” given in exchange on the previous friday because mine where running on an elastic charts, i no longer have. But i have a few wounds i would like some vengence on.

Your more then welcome to PM me for contact details.

Transport office, A war zone!, opperators sabotage each others work, dont pass on comunications from those at front line which always reflects on the drivers and their reputation, office staff LIE and COVER UP THEIR INADEQUATE INABILITIES, IE wrong area code on paperwork given to driver! eighty ks worth of diesel taken from drivers wages + €50 FINE + DRESSING DOWN BY THE ANIMAL THAT IS R LONG IN YARD IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY! I SHOWED PAPERWORK TO PROVE OFFICE IN WRONG ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I HAD FABRICATED THE EVIDENCE!! bizzare!
:grimacing: :grimacing:

I know a bloke who was being interviewed for an office job a few years ago and mr.Long looked out of the window at the next applicant arriving and said " he won’t get the job, he’s a fat [zb] and I hate fat [zb].

What years ago when everyone was at it or last week?

Saaamon:
What years ago when everyone was at it or last week?

now thats a good question.

well its this side of 2005, as I was still mooching between the north sea and west Africa. and I’ve been doing my own thing since 2008, so its in-between there somewhere . best i can offer at this time of night without sifting through old payslips and general rubbish.

he kinda reminds you off a football once you get to know him. you just want to kick him all over the yard.

That is nothing like the Windham office whatsoever and on Richards behalf I wish to lodge the strongest protest possible, every one who has worked there know for a fact that there are no partitions between the desks :unamused:

Apart from some jobs I also had at sea (home and middle trade) I actually enjoyed working there, as stated before, until you drove into the yard over the little hump backed bridge. Then the depression sets in and stays until on the way out again.

What do you not understand ? as long as my medication hasn’t kicked in I will try to explain OK

This is a bit of a one sided post.

What would you do if your driver smuggled a pallet of cigarettes, got caught and truck impounded? Driver kept his job.

Another driver drunk as he left the ferry, again caught and arrangements made to get another driver to do the delivery…driver kept his job until disqualified.

Driver attempts to go across the Forth bridge with a wide load in the early hours hitting and getting stuck on the armco…closing the forth bridge for many hours…driver still has his job.

At the farm there are showers and toilets…but some decide to have a crap in the yard…the Longs were not too happy about that…would you if you were in his shoes.

As for being paid an average of £820 per month…more fool you if you let that carry on as long as it did. Obviously you would still be there if it wasn’t for you alledgedly “Walking”. There is more to this than you are telling.
Good luck on trying to take action or making a dent in his wallet…it won’t happen.

The root problem at Longs is the 2 planners. They mess up and blame someone else…the driver. They work against each other deliberately and wen it goes wrong the river is to blame. This is why RL takes it out on the drivers.

i worked fore mr long about six years ago and like some lads have said found it to be a very interesting job was £820 every two weeks had a big v8 under me bum to drive went all over euro never on the same job every week always some where new to go i loved it and ther was some good lads on the job hard working lads but the fear of going back to the yard used to give me the jitters it still does just to think about it if it was not fore the attitude of the planers i would have still be working fore RL

all that tells me is that the drivers kept their jobs because they were struggling to find and keep drivers due to their (all office staff, not just RL himself) aggressive attitude

Spoke to a longs driver today said he’d been there 6 years and loved it same story that the office are a big problem but apart from that he was happy with wages said there always in his bank on time and he said he rarely goes back to the yard he just takes truck home

Did he say how often he got home ?
