Hello DBP. ERF stands for Edwin Richard Foden who branched off the Foden concern to start his own manufacturing outfit.

BTW the pictures show ECs with SP5 cabs, not 5MW ones  but keep 'em coming, I always enjoy your contributions. Robert

These export NZ lorries may well have 3MW cabs. Robert

DEANB alerted me to another pic of that preserved 5MW / A-series in an article part of which is attached below. It is seen here with a sheet trailer still working, presumably before preservation. robert

Robert, what do you make of this motor it has a split wind screen but am i right in thinking its a foreign cab thats
been transplanted on a erf chassis ? I wondered if it might be a Atkinson cab as i seem to remember something
similar in Australia, although this was taken in South Africa. The way the back of the cab is cut away was what made
me think it may be Atkinson ? It also has a raised cab ■■

Sorry picture is a bit small !

Thank you, Anorak! I’ve always been able to present images the right way up but my new Windows 8.1 doesn’t appear capable of performing anything useful whatsoever! Cheers, Robert

when John Turner saw REH398M for sale in Beeches he bought it on the moment, he’d gone for spares for his ERF fleet.
when he saw REH for sale he just bought it.his brother Andrew (not in the company only a driver) seid john come home
and said you’ll not believe it i just got a erf tractor unit with a steel cab.
John

Worked with John Turner at Mark Young’s, he told me that he’d gone to pick some spares up & came out with a steel cabbed tractor unit.

Gosh, that’s a new one on me! Tasteful livery too. Any idea of its drive-line? Robert

Hi Robert, it had ■■■■■■■ NH250 -14 litre, Fuller RTO9509 & I think Kirkstall BDR. I bought it in about 1982 from a friend in Brockworth, Gloucester - Ray Cove. He had bought it from a firm in Glasgow and from the reg HGE 853N that is where it would have originated. I sold it after 2 years for the same as I paid for it to the late Don White in Cheltenham. I believe if IIRC he sold it to someone in the Birmingham area, maybe someone on here can fill in some of the blanks as to it’s provenance & demise. Regards Noel.
