Returning to hgv after a few years off

I’m about to renew my cpc which has currently ran out, and I thought it would be as simple as one phone call and back out driving.
It seems because ive not got 2 years recent experience, I might struggle to get work even though ive got over 20 years experience as a class one agency driver.
Has anyone else came across this problem, and also I’m a little nervous, after not driving for so long.

Who told you that?..

It’s not my experience. I’ve had two breaks of over 3 years from class 1 work and got straight back in on both occasions.

Ive not come across it, but maybe there are some companies or insurance companies that would want recent experience. That may be in the same way that some wont entertain new passes.
I don`t imagine there will be too many being quite that fussy though.

If you have your heart set on one particular target company, maybe ask them?
But otherwise I wouldn`t worry.

You`re in a better position than a young new-start, and they get jobs.

Lie, basically.

Some agencies specify this. It’s just part of their “blurb”. Explain your circumstances to them. If that doesn’t get you anywhere, just get a regular job.

I was posting about your advice to the op as a so called driver/trainer…please stay on topic sweetie… luv and totally ingenuine respect…

Lie, basically.

So, do you agree this is professional advice as a driver/trainer… :open_mouth: platitudes not welcome… u ■■■■■■…

Getting back on point, if you lie, then go do an assesment, depends who but alot dip cards now to see when last drove.

Go to permtemps, they’ll send you on a 3 day assesment … just be honest, if you lie then you’ll make yourself twice as nervous, if your honest, you’ll relax more.

And similar position last year or was it the year before, they are on the look out for newbies and why they set the barriers, but to put them off, returning driver, you’ll not find such issues and they’ll try help you back into driving, but adverts might state different, just call and tell them the truth.

You should be so lucky… . Now answer the question as a driver/trainer , is lying the way to progress in transport…

If you’ve got 20 years fairly recent experience and a company is turning you away pointlessly because you haven’t been driving for two years then yes. So you think his 20 years experience is worthless do you? He should just throw away 2 decades service because some random company says so? Ok then. Advice given as just another random member of a forum. Have a nice weekend

Well Fancy that, no answer to my questions then….

If companies or agencies are asking for recent driving experience then just be honest. Lying absolutely is not the way to go.

They want to see recent driving on your tacho card which there won’t be, usually when I’ve seen it mentioned they want to see 180 days or more continuous driving activity. And a CV will also show you have not been driving recently.

It is most likely an insurance stipulation as Insurance companies have companies by the short and curly’s.

Many years experience may mean very little to an employer sadly, things have very much moved on in recent years, after such a large break rightly or wrongly trucks have changed a lot, technology has changed a lot, road laws and rules have changed a lot. Some of that the CPC is supposed to cover and keep us refreshed on such things.

Op how long has your break in driving been? That is possibly the most important question that hasn’t been asked.

So let’s hear from the insurance company sponsors of this forum whether they impose these conditions regarding recent continuous driving experience. Then we can make up our own minds about who we want to do business with on an individual level.

This nonsense two year thing is a joke, I recently sat 35 hours of cpc I got all my medical and cards ,especially after seeing the rates went up!!! It was not the bs about shortages that lured me back, but so far I have simply blocked all the recruiting data harvesting parasites,I have had ad hoc offers at best.
I gave up looking until the summers gone!
It’s a ■■■■ industry full of liars and the trainers are cashing in on the bullshat.

I wish you all the best pal
