Restoring bumper

I have an MAN with a grey lower half (steps, bumper etc) and was wondering if anyone has ever tried touching one up and what sort of job it made? My main bug bear is where I’ve been rubbing my boots on the side of the steps when getting in and out and it has worn the grey away. I’ve seen bumper grey spray paint in halfords but don’t know if it would stick out like a sore thumb?!

Cheers.

Sand it down (not too harsh paper)

Spray on 2 or 3 coats of primer

4 or 5 coats of main colour (thin coats otherwise you’ll have paint drip marks)

And a few coats of lacquer on top to protect it

You can get tinted lacquer to try and blend the slight colour difference so it isn’t noticeable.

With cars you can get the paint numbers from under the bonnet and halfords can mix up a paint exactly to your original vehicle colour, not too sure about that with lorries.

You also could just do a full respray of the bumper? Even colour code it to the rest of the unit?

I think man bumper grey is a very common colour for automotive paint suppliers. The usually have some spray cans already made up on their shelves ready to buy.

You would need a satin finish as gloss would stand out too much.
Best match would be to take a sample to a paint supplier and have an aerosol made up, they’re not much more expensive than a tin from Halfords and will be the right colour and finish.
I did this and the repair was virtually invisible.

Nick.

Problem is how do I get a sample off the bumper!?

where the headlamp is, there is a small square panel that can be removed, it covers the headlamp washers, or there are 6 small round discs that cover the mounting bolts

Was thinking of touching up my rusted cf bumper with tippex, I’m not one for spending money tbh.

the paint code for that will be on the door pillar if it is the same as the cab colour, if it is grey, DAF sell the grey paint in the spray cans

Does it come with rust spots ready mixed in for the authentic look?

Course there is why didn’t I think of that!! Just not sure how accurate they can get the paint as the wagon is 06 plate so it has faded over time.
