Do you respect your employer and are you loyal to them?
The reason I ask is that I hear whinging voices from MANY drivers who are in waiting rooms, outside waiting rooms, in cafes, services, coach parks, shopping with the wife etc etc that do nothing but slag off their employers
I worked for 2 companies that I didn’t see eye to eye with and left!
Do any of you people on here actually work for an employer you despise so much that you will take his/her money but not be loyal?
There are 2 previous employers I would go back to without hesitation if they could give me the same wage/benefits etc as my current employer but as times are hard they can’t and I will be loyal and respect my current employer for what they do give me.
It doesn’t/shouldn’t matter who I/you work for now but the point I’m trying to make is do you stick up for your current company (who pay you) or slag them off at every opportunity?
Would like some views - knowing this site will get slagged as well…but there you go
I won’t slag you off, might disagree with you though.
Loyalty for me stretches to I do the work, you pay the wages, I don’t want to be best friends with my boss, as I’m sure he wouldn’t with me, wouldn’t slag him off behind his back, a wage rise would be nice though.
I think the trouble with drivers that moan about their job/boss, is it’s easy to get into a rut with the little things that can occur between them, or they don’t have much else to talk about.
The thing is it’s not the done thing to praise your boss in the company of other drivers. The one’s that maybe would are sitting there listening to the same old complaints and just respectfully nod.
The thing is many of those driver you hear moaning won’t go and tell the boss about it, and if the boss says jump they’ll be the first to do it.
There are places I’ve worked and I would go back if my present situation changed. It’s not just money as far as I’m concerned it’s about how you are treated. Are you more than a number? Is there respect both ways?
Whilst I dont particulary enjoy working for ND, I also wouldnt say Im particulary loyal to them either, I come in, do what I gotta do and go home…
But to be fair to my boss, he is a brilliant and actually knows the score as he has done the job himself…
I remember it well, one of the reasons I became on owner driver in the first place and then an employer was when I worked for FT in Exeter before Evans had them. All day long drivers would slag off the company TM’s or other drivers. They were worst than a group of old woman. After 9 years I had ,had enough and walked.
I have alot of respect for my boss, he took a gamble on me as I was only 23 and had very little C+E experience, gave me a chance when most wouldn’t, also stood up for me when I had abit of trouble earlier In the year wereas most companys wouldve probrably kicked me out the door. Because of that I do feel abit of loyalty as long as i’m paid and treated well, left to get on the job and not expected to run bent etc
I do cringe when I’m chatting to a newbie driver and their moaning about the work, wages, truck etc I’m just thinking if they shut the zb up got stuck in and proved themselves they will get the good work, because respect has to be earned afterall

weird thing is ive become quite loyal to tesco, yes i moan about things about the job but its mainly the way things are loaded in the trailer and the planning leaves much to be desired but its easy work and there aint much hassle.
used to be quite loyal to parcelforce that is until the end of november when i lost my grandad now im on my last week with them ever. had enough of it and the boss is a total {zb}
a;sp when i worked for johnstones paints i basically bent over backwards for them but i got to clock off 2 hours early everyday (to beat the traffic on the forth road bridge) yet got paid for a full day.occasionally he`d ask me to come and work a saturday for him for free, though that only happened once and it was just a run through to glasgow and back to edinburgh. also are the only company that ive went on a works night out with and well all i remember was being very very drunk
I dont think there is much loyalty in a big company anymore but some of the 4 or 5 truck set ups, then everyone pulls together and probably for less money but much better conditions.
Although there is no loyalty, just listen to the rivalry when you get a couple of lads from one company and a couple from another, it is either about slagging the planners off or jibing each other about how crap their job is.
Whats changed? The fact that most drivers do not communicate with each other anymore, no one shares a few mugs of tea and a natter, instead they are all racing to beat each other to a booking slot and then sat in the cab not talking for 2 hours, or sat in a lorry park with the curtains round watching stenders or corrie

The company I am with is 100 plus tractors. I feel an amazing loyalty to them because they have earned it. I respect their general honesty and their policies. After my accident they supported me and helped me get back to work as fast as I could by changing the job I did. This was done without any sort of limitation or complaint.
I think there is a general attitude of dislike and mistrust. Drivers see their bosses in nice cars and with big houses and feel they should have it because they work for a living, while never grasping the concept that enough work will help them achieve their own goals.
absoloutely and utterly not. although another way to say it would be that i extend them the same degree of respect they do to me.
example: the yard has not been gritted. now it has been driven over by however many trucks its like an ice ring. there is a 1-tonne builders merchant type bag of grit in the warehouse but it cant be used because it ‘costs too much’. Of course thats more important than someone falling over/getting knocked over by a forklift etc etc.
example: go in the transport office and report such-and-such defect. ‘yeah we’ll get it sorted’. a week later and it hasn’t been touched, meanwhile those ■■■■■in the office are busy putting bets on and/or reading the paper. then someone turns in five minutes late the next morning and its the end of the world!
the ‘■■■■■■and blinding’ style of management, ‘do it or youve got no job’ tone is not to my taste either. hence, i dont respect them and do the absoloute minimum i can get away with.
I don’t moan without good reason! When i lose money due to tight arse TMs trying to look good with the Boss then i let them know what kind of ■■■■they are!!! Loyalty is to my family and friends not an Employer
i think every job has its good and bad points…in the past i have told em to stick it over trivial things only to regret it afterwards…my wife is always telling me i have a big mouth…i tell her not as big as yours darlin
all in all the job is what you make it and as our company rightfully will tell you…if you dont like the way we run…theres the door…i must admit i do an honest days work for a reasonable days pay and the job itself is quite easy, the equipment is up to date, and they normally leave you to get on with it…at the end of the day…drivers will whinge…always have done…always will do…we are never satisfied no matter how perfect everything is…you know the old saying…you never know what youve got till its gone…

‘… Do you respect your employer and are you loyal to them?..’
No & yes respectively.
They’ve currently underpaid me for a couple of hours and the office clerk/job allocator to whom I’m supposed to direct my whinges is handbagging me off this week (‘…a bit busy right now…’ or ‘…see me tomorrow…’, etc) - despite me being his ‘…diamond…’ and ‘…top bloke…’ blah, etc.
Accepting that he is a cog in the wheel of bolleaux like me, albeit arguably out of his depth - do I bad mouth & get really upset with him or do I save it for the faceless director’s in their shiny Beemers that pull his strings? The office sap can get driver’s ten-a-penny around here, so I’m having to eat muck and smile whilst thinking ‘bad things’ about the lot of 'em as I’m playing ball & they’re collectively shoving the bat up my jacksy…
(Read that and weep, New Labour & your ‘vibrant economy’ nonsense).
I have to say so far I have nothing to moan about. ive only been employed for a week but all the people have been very welcoming. I have an easy job and a nice clean truck with no dents in it. I am easily pleased though
With my lot it seems the more drops you do the more you get the next day ! No thanks but whatever you do to try and help the company makes no difference as they just mess it up! ie sending 3 trucks to the same address on the same day ,whilst other customers have been waiting weeks!! The managers are moaning that we are losing money ,but do not listen to drivers when they defect their truck. Then they are stupified when just at a critical moment { Christmas} the trucks breakdown! I used to care but now i let them get on with it !
