Just reminded me “backload” ,one day in about the early/mid 80’s ? a geezer called Unwin rang me and asked if he could call and see me, said he was the Boss man at Renwick Freight. Anyway he rolls up in a new Range Rover and asked if I would sell him Bewick Transport, money no object and for starters he’d double whatever I was paying myself and put me into a brand new Merc SE 420,told me to get rid of my poxy 300E and we would go places as part of Renwick Freight ! Aye OK mate don’t ring me I’ll ring you end of ! For a few years after I used to often see a Pal of mine the late George Carter, a scrap man from Stoke and once I had casually told him I knew this bloke called Unwin every time I saw George he would delight in telling me about the various scams that this geezer got into, like “yer mate Unwin is up to this or that” ! Happy Days Cheers Bewick.PS “Saviem” knows who I am on about with him being an ex Watchmaker and JEWELLER !!
They had a place in Bradford on Thornton Rd where Grattan is now
I think they had a depot in central Scotland , and by the sound of it the manager would have fitted in very well with the company culture !!!.
Was their main depot at Caldicot near Newport South Wales ?
Is that Renwick who bought out Hatton`s in Eastleigh??

R.& W, Febry & Sons Ltd Avonmouth [St Brendans Way] were a member of the Renwicks Freight Group.
They did work in caldicot and their manager Jim Owen lived in the area.
Were they ever “Renwick, Wilton & Dobson”? seem to remember that name of a firm of coal suppliers that we used to haul for in the mid 60s.

Do you mean Fisher Renwick, who used to run those big Scammell ridged-8 ‘showboat’ luton vans on regular services between London, Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland in the '50s & '60s? Robert

Not those Robert, yellow motors with a image of a beaver on the door (Brian Edgar Pic) they bought out Clive Watson from Rugeley, green and red Dafs
I remember the yellow Renwicks Freight with the Beaver emblem on the side in the seventies but did they change their livery to white in the eighties.

I cannot remember any white trucks, I’m pretty sure that when they bought Clive Watson they got sprayed yellow and this would be mid eighties, the ones I saw where in Nu-Tec at Lichfield and they where Daf 2100 and 2500 rigids, Cheer’s Pete
Think they took over William Nuttalls in manchester, i remember them painted orange. Think this may be one of their atki’s.

I’m sure you will know that the Atki ‘PDF 190M’ pictured, was registered in Gloucester and run from Lydbrook after Renwicks took over the Edwards yard. I remember them from the 1970’s running steel and general haulage.
I don’t think it was really anything to do with Renwicks when all this lot happen. It was the infamous Dave Unwin that was buying up these reputable companies and asset stripping them and running them into the ground. He bought Glyn John Transport and did exactly that as he did with all of them, then disappeared
Yeah I think you got it there Franglaise, Renwick Freight bought out Walter M. Hatton refridgerated service, Southampton. I fergit where Hatton’s base was.
