The Reduced Gearbox Function warning is commonplace on Renaults but as mentioned, it doesn’t actually reduce gearbox function at all.
There’s a valve in the control box on top of the gearbox which reduces air pressure and the warning is suggesting that this isn’t working properly although in reality the sensor isn’t working properly. Mine shows the warning for the first 20-30 minutes a day but then goes out as soon as everything has warmed up.

What air pressure should be going to the gearbox?? Anyone know??
Its self regulating and draws air from the braking reservoirs. Thats why if you are coupling up to a trailer that has been standing for a while, you have to be 10000000% certain you have it in neutral before putting the airlines on, othewise it locks in gear and stalls. Then you cant start it.
Regulation is done either with via the APM and/ or a gearbox internal pressure regulator or an inline one.
It’s doesn’t draw air from the braking reservoirs as it’s on the “brown” circuit which is Auxillary air i.e horn - seat - g/box - suspension etc. Braking air is orange for front brakes - blue for rear brakes - green for parking circuit and red for trailer supply. All the air pipes have coloured bands on them - A single colour band means its a supply pipe = constant pressure - if it has a colour and a white band then it’s a feed pipe = delivered pressure - so for example the footvalve has one pipe with an orange band and one with a blue band these are front and rear brake circuit supply pipes to the footvalve - Then it has an orange & white banded pipe and a blue & white banded pipe that feed the relay valves from the footvalve.
The gearbox works at 8 to 8.5 bar - Under or over that will give the gearbox reduced function pictogram. On late models there is a pressure reducer in the top of the g/box which comes in kit form at £200 + . Early models had an inline pressure reducing valve that can be retro fitted at about £60 ish.
With worn compressors and a lot of shunting the air drops on the Auxillary side and the vehicle stalls in gear - as you have low air pressure it can’t select neutral without the air being built back up again. On a 6x2 there is a bung on the n/s of the chassis between the lift and drive axles. If you tap into there with an air supply source it’s the same as the compressor working and will build the air back up to get neutral.
I could get the part number of the stand alone PRV if anyone needs it
Unless it stays on all the time and gets on your nerves I’d ignore it & you can minimise the warning on the display so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.

You can do the same jump pump trick on the 4x2, valve is in the same place. ND at Vauxhall keep a hose in the office for it because it happens on a fairly regular basis to them, but they have a lot of agency drivers who are not used to the Premium. We didn’t find it a problem when it was just the regular guys who drove Prems all the time.
I didn’t put that down for a 4x2 as not all of them have the bung on the chassis you have to go straight into the bottom of the APM itself

I just got a 56 plate euro5 450 dxi and its canny enough apart from my remote central locking isn’t working put the key in the door and the central locking works fine tried the fuse and changed the battery in the fob still nothing
Another thing to note is soon as I remove the key from the ignition it isolates the electric system literally shove it back in and it all comes to life again.
The step lights don’t work either can’t locate a fuse for them though.
Any ideas?
Weve had 59 plate 450 on road for last 5 months and im more than happy with it both fuel consumption and adblue useage betta than merc ,driver likes it and the i shift is fantastic would have another, dealer back up also very good, did have trouble with step lights not coming on and indicators not flashing when you unlocked it with keyfob but by accident we found removing a fuse in battery box for a few seconds cured it !!
I’ve just been presented with one of these. I would echo what I’ve read here its a good truck, drives very nicely.
Badly spoilt by a small, cramped and ■■■■ poorly designed cab and lack of storage space (I do 4-5 nights out a week)
I agree with most of the positive comments on here.
I’ve had 2 Premium 450’s over the last couple of years, first one an 08 plate with 550,000kms on the clock, i did over 60,000k in that one at an average of 9.15mpg pulling short sea containers (heavy!!) then i swapped jobs and now drive a 57 plate 450 with over 800,000kms on the clock, pulling general (portakabins, structural steel, timber and currently fridges) to date i’ve done 60,000kms at an average of 9.4mpg, so good on fuel, reliable, yes you do get a few warning lights on the dash but as someone else pointed out, deadlocking with the remote keyfob resets the computer and clears most of them.
Yes, they are a bit cramped for tramping, but not such a problem for me as i’m 5’9 but anyone 6’ or over will struggle comfort wise.
and to all the badge snobs…tell me this truck doesn’t look good

That truck doesn’t look good.
Well you did ask and Im not one to disappoint. Could I ask you however to either link to the image or downsize it in the forum because you have massively stretched the site.

Apologies…different pic of truck that doesn’t stretch things.

Performing safety truck duties at Donington! Love seeing a working truck get spanked.
