renault premium

Never mind the 08 il sell you an 09 with rpc warranty until next july fridge microwave big deisel tanks tag lift manual box with 440 000 k,s…

Very good trucks from what I see coming through our workshop. Drivers and owners seem happy with them, and they seem to be reliable and good on fuel.

The only problem is I am told there will be no more RHD Renaults after 2016~2017. Renault UK & Ireland have recently been given a five year official notice of this,as Renault have said they now wish to concentrate on the LHD market. Sad to hear.

The badge snobs will have a field day .

Badge snobs? Cynical comment. I’ve been weighing them up for some time now. Would I? Possibly.

Am I going to?

Who knows.

Gotta see 2 million k’s outa this one first!

Not seen you on here recently, how’s it going?

Liking a particular make and judging a vehicle merely by it’s badge without any experience of it are different things.

I reckon you can make a Premium look a tidy truck, I saw the ones Sauber got when they returned to F1, didn’t do a great deal from standard, just a few extra bits and nice tidy paint job. Made them look quite tidy.

I’m still kicking around mate. Flying the A14 daily. A few changes of life for me. More family TIMEand working hard. There’s a white/silver premium pulling for Aldi’s. Pushes my buttons completely. Hope yr well mate. (jobs driving Rhinos out this way appear to be thin on the ground!)

that’s intresting, also make’s sense aswell, as reno are cutting some model’s from the car range, replacing them with the budget brand…

also renault would be very dump to drop the premium out of the uk market, look how many are here, you can’t go a mile without seeing one…

Congrats due then, I really rate that new Premium after my last venture into general haulage, not the roomiest cab in the world, but nice to drive.

Yep Rhinos are getting a rare species up your way. bit of a problem for me as it’s been my fall back position for the last 20 years. :frowning:

Unless of course it’s replaced by a small Volvo.

There you go Rob I’ve found a Sauber Premium, don’t know about the spot lights but still very simple and effective.

Note to self, I really should check out what I have written before posting!!! Pmsl.

For the money there isn’t a better truck on the market currently than the Renault Premium.

The price is good, fuel consumption superb, drivetain actually better than the Volvo it all came from (trust me it’s true) and it’s an easy truck to live with. Gearbox is very very good indeed, no hesitation in changes, gets it right most times, reverse speed/control is spot on. At 44-tonnes the 450 DXi is a great truck.

Yes, the cab is smaller inside, less room for 5 nights out per week no argument and the footwell room is limited. That’s about the downsides.

If looked after it will last as well as any other brand on the market apart from maybe the bulletproof Volvo! For an owner driver it’s unbeatable. Reliability is excellent and comfort is very good apart from the things mentioned above.

Get one! You’ll like it unless you’re a total cynic or badge snob. My 60 plate is a peach.

It already is …!!!

Late last year I went Demo truck testing with a friend of mine that has his tractor-unit & was looking to buy another one.

We tested:
a Daf 85 SC, 510 hp Autobox
a Volvo FM 500,Globe. Autobox.
& a Premium 460 DXI with autobox (Thank’s to Rob K).

The Renault walked all over the Daf In term’s of comfort, quality & power( :open_mouth: ) especially with the Autobox…It was defo. a good truck…

The Premium Is a good choice of truck as far as I’m concerned…

I got a 2nd hand '09 reg earlier in the year. I don’t drive myself, but the guys seem to like it.

The only issue was with the Ad Blue useage - warning light on - and it was traced back to a faulty outside temperature sensor. Needed Renault dealer diagnostics to find it. Was a cheap fix though.

I’d buy another, based on the last few months experience.

Coincidentally, my name is also Ewan. Not many of us around.

So that is why Nobby is trialing the Merc and the MAN after running Premiums and XFs for years.

One assumes that figure doesn’t include the three or four per depot on hire either.

  1. Change the turbo at no later than 600,000km or you’ll be replacing the intercooler and the Cat too
  2. Make sure all mods have been carried out to the APM (Air dryer) Major weakspot
  3. They don’t like damp cold, but December 2011 at -20C dry cold was fine!
  4. Reduced Gearbox Function warning is common, but I haven’t yet found a function which is reduced
  5. Upholstery is poor- too light colour and seat bases wear overnight
  6. Fuel is better on 460 than 450
  7. Dealer refused to sell a manual to us - Optidriver is the route to take
  8. Watch out for injector sleeve problems on early 450’s (and Volvo 13 litre) Derv in header tank and turns seals in engine to putty
  9. Once past the badge, drivers find they like them
  10. Good handling
  11. I Shift didn’t reveal all its secrets to Renault, thr Premium is definitely more ON/OFF when crawling in reverse
  12. Dealer back up VERY GOOD especially further North you go - better than its sister brand from Sweden
  13. Oil pressure switches can play up
  14. Hammock very comfy
  15. Find one with a fridge

4 = Isolate, either with the red switch on the battery compartment (4 leggers) or by double zapping the lock button (6 leggers) will clear this.

5 = very true. A couple of snap-on seat covers is a good investment.

6 = Again, true, and you can really feel the 10hp difference.

9 = I looked down my nose at em, but have since driven DAF, (LF and CF) MAN (TGM and TGX) Merc Axor and Volvo FH. I would pick the Renault over all but the FH, and even then, it would need to be won on spec.

12 = The dealer in Dunstable went out of their way to keep us happy at the Vauxhall warehouse. Collect and deliver at very short notice etc. The only problem we had was a cracked step after a service. Being fair, the DAF dealer in MK offers a very similar level of service to our MK depots.

Another thing we found at Vauxhall Aftersales is that it is well worthwhile keeping a little bit of kit available. We often found that the gearbox can get stuck when shunting at low speed. We had a hose, with a male airline connector on one end and a screw on connector on the other. It screwed on to the air reservoirs at the back of the chassis on the broken vehicle and plugged into the red airline on a working unit. Run the good unit to fill the busted one up with air and you can then shift gears to Neutral and start the truck.

After a couple of weeks in an LF sleeper, I really miss the premium. My new depot is currently afflicting these on us but has a fleet of Renault Midlums on order. Im looking forward to getting back to having a Renault badge back on my steering wheel.
