My son and I run a 53 Reg Renault Premium 420 dci tractor unit. The amber dashboard warning light indicating limp home mode has been on for several months but happily we are not in limp home mode. We took it into a main Renault dealer for some other work and they cleared light using diagnostic laptop. As soon as we left dealer light was on again. They do not know what is activating it. Has anyone else had similar. Cheers
you got adblue switch off?

adblue on a 53 plate ?
No ad blue on ours.
I had one of these on a 52 and then on an 05 and as far as I know the only way to find out exactly what it is whinging about is to plug it into the computer. I donāt think itās a ālimp home modeā as such, just indicating that the engine ECU (assuming itās that one) has detected some kind of fault.

Repton is quite correct Dciās donāt have a limp mode - The only time it will suffer is if it has a tachograph related fault. If the lights on it will be logged in either the engine or vehicle ecu - What message is on the display
Steve
On the display it says āLIMP HOME MODEā with a gear stick icon in amber. Cheers.
Is it fitted with Astronic ?
Steve
yes auto astronic box

It will certainly be in the Gearbox ECU memory - Not always the easiest to diagnose with a ZF gearbox - Renault software and limited diagnostics on the computer. Weāve had to change a couple of lids recently.

Thanks for your time in replying. Renault dealer put it on laptop 2 weeks ago and reset this and a maintenance light and charged Ā£58. We set off and got 50 yards when it popped on again. I rang them and they said ignore it as it would be to difficult to trace what is causing it and since it had been on some time it should be ok. In your opinion is it something we can just ignore. Cheers
I would consider going the ZF specialist route

The Maintenance light can be put out via the dashboard with the little joystick - It doesnāt need a laptop for that. If it drives o.k then itās not going to harm it - The main problems result in it not selecting a gear from start off - It will keep showing the āreturn to neutralā symbol.

That may not work - We sent one to ZF themselves at Nottingham for a warranty repair and they couldnāt test it after as they couldnāt over-ride the Renault software -Typical French

Thanks for your help. In relation to knocking off maintenance light via little joystick is there anywhere online that you can get instructions, there is nothing in owners manual. Cheers
