Hi lads, does anyone know how to remove a door card on a v2 Volvo FM? The interior door handle went limp yesterday and the door won’t open so I presume the cable is gone, but I cannot for the life of me see how to take the door card off!
Cheers
John
Hello mate
First remove the panel that goes across the door and down towards the front, in a sort of L shape. Its clipped in and should come out easy. There are 2 bolts underneath this either side of the now exposed metal grab handle.
Where your floppy handle is, take a small screwdriver and pop the top of it off, you should be able to see where its in 2 halves. Theres a torx screw under that. Remove the screw and you can remove the whole plastic part of the handle.
Take a small screwdriver and stick it down the front of the window switch to release the clip, it should come out front end first or you’ll break the lugs off the back of it.
The door card itself should now just be held on with clips around the outside. I normally grab it in the top outside corner which should be a bit loose after youve undone the 2 bolts.
Just grab it and pull hard, working your way around. you’ll probably break the clips but they are easily had and changed. Once all the clips are free lift it up and over the metal handle sticking up, and dont forget to unplug the light on the door.
Let me know if you need help with the cable
Thanks for the detailed reply, directions were spot on. I’ve it off but cannot get in to remove the broken end of the cable (lock end) any tips on how to get it out?
Once again thanks for your help.
Cheers
John
I assume you’ve removed the black metal panel underneath the door card.
Changing the cable normally means removing the door catch and handle with the cable attached, replacing the cable and refitting it all together.
You will have to remove the window guide on the side closest to the lock, 2 torx screws and you can wiggle it out (make sure the window is all the way up!)
Peer into the back of the door handle and you’ll see 2 link rods attached to the back of the handle. One is a little pop on balljoint that just needs popping off, the other will need to be spread apart with a screw driver to release it.
Look on the end of the door there should be 3x 12mm bolts that hold the door catch assembly in. Take these out and the bolts that hold the floppy door handle and you should be able to wiggle it all out.
Many thanks, got it done this evening, and in proper volvo nature- it was a ■■■■■■■ to do!
Cheers for the instructions they were spot on.
Cheers

No worries I’ve done a hundred of them and its still a pain.
Need anything else Volvo related just let me know!
Good info there, I’ve got a terrible draught that comes through the doors on my VNL (same doors as an FH/FM) not much fun when it’s -30c.
I have gaffer taped the drain holes in the bottom of the door (not as dangerous for rust as it sounds as water doesn’t drain when it’s rock solid) but I’m still getting cold air coming through the door, my thoughts are that the handle surround could use a bead of mastic around it.
In your experience warcake, would that be a solution to my problem?
I’ve had a look at the parts diagram, it looks similar to an FH door, but internally has some differences. That being said there is a gasket/seal that is supposed to sit behind the door handle with the part number: 1095779
Aside from that the air can only get in around the window or the door seal, in which case id be pressure washing the door to see if any water was leaking in.
There is also a one way (supposedly) air vent in the door, the picture isnt very clear but its the top middle one:
Possibly damaged maybe, its only made of plastic with rubber flaps that open. That part number is 1096806
Wow! Thank you very much.
That’s as much of a guess as I can take without seeing it so hopefully you can get it sorted!
Thanks for all you help. Any idea why I’d have an intermittent brake light cruise control fault? When the brake lights don’t work neither does the cruise control!
Cheers
John
The cruise control doesn’t work until you’ve pressed the brake pedal and the brake lights come on. So no cruise control can mean no brake lights, as you’ve found out, so have a look at the brake light switch. There are a number of places volvo fit these, I’d try on the foot brake valve under the grille.
Would that mean that I shift won’t engage a starting gear if a brake light switch goes wonky?

No, it will still select gears, it’s just the cruise control that won’t work.
