Removals trucks

Dont get me wrong here, I’m not having a go - I’m just curious.

I sometimes get work through an agency at a well known removals firm, to be honest I hate it but I’m not really in a position to turn work down. 21t volvo with rear steer. I have noticed though there seems to be a general dislike for removals drivers out on the roads - lack of courtesy etc, why - whats so bad about them? Doesn’t bother me really but I’d hate to think I was being tarred with the same brush if they’re mostly zb’s

It’s nothing to do with removals drivers, it’s just because you’re driving a truck and people don’t like you. I let a tipper out of a junction today when I was in my car and I thought the poor bloke was going to fall off his seat with the shock.

To be fair, Id rather a tipper be in front of me than behind me sat 2 inches from the rear bumper (not genralising, talking from experience  )

ah, didn’t word that very well looking at it - I meant from other h.g.v. drivers, no flash in, no thankyou after flashing them in, nothing - the only thing I can think of is most of the blokes I’ve worked with at removals firms aren’t like a normal lorry driver, they’re removal men who have to drive the truck occasionally (for want of a better description) and maybe there was some thing(s) that they do to upset normal hgv drivers.

Most removal lorries are considerably quicker than my truck so I don’t think they need to be flashed in, and when I do they fail to notice til they’re half a mile up the road so can’t see the point.

Had one on the A12 tailgating me the other week, plenty of oppertunities to overtake but seemed intent on trying to make me go faster, didn’t seem to like it when I put the hazards on to ask him to back off, cos when he came past he gave me the coffee shake, I just shook my head at him :unamused:

They’re dumb  anybody who want’s to do that much work, when they’re at work, must have something wrong with them :bulb:

lol you don’t mean THE COFFEE SHAKE do you? :open_mouth: Is it a universal way to show your anger to a fellow trucker beside you, similar to flashing indicators to say thank you?

only 2 inches :exclamation:  ,

top tip: if a tipper is behind you ease of the gas and he’ll more than happily push you up the road :exclamation: :open_mouth:

coat, hat TAXI :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

I want one of those tail lifts that removal trucks have, the tail lift can go all the way up to the top of the truck body :exclamation: :exclamation:    amazed H&S allows them tbh. :unamused: :unamused:

:open_mouth: Needs must though - as I said, I’m not in a position to turn work down  by the sounds of things though - I could do without being associated with that particular job :imp: Next tuesday and wednesday, do me a favour - try to remember there’s exceptions to every rule

I had the best time of my life doing removal work so long as you got a hard working porter that u get on with.I only weighed 14 stone doing removal work but when i became a real trucker sitting on my ■■■ 15 hours a day it shot up to 19 stone but it is coming down now because i go to the gym over the weekend

    :open_mouth:

:unamused: Present company accepted

Ive got nothing against removal firms, don’t know why anyone would, the ones i encounter all have plenty of juice under the bonnet - so i don’t over take many and the ones who overtake me are already in the distance :stuck_out_tongue:

 I must just be unlucky then - the knackered bags of ■■■ the company in question have have less power than a fiat punto! (they’re dark blue btw).

Removals is either a job you love or hate. If you love it you will be stuck in the industry for years like me  I don’t have a problem with being treated differently on the road to any other driver, your always going to get some that forget their manners!

Most removal companies stick their hand up at each other when passing, but a well known removal company that have dark blue vans seem to think they are better than the rest of us mere mortals and rarely wave, so if you see anyone else, stick your hand up and reverse the trend, you’ll be easy for us to spot

Removal drivers are just like any other truck drivers. All the guys at reddaways always thank people for flashing them in and are good law abiding drivers.
I know what you mean about a certain company in blue though.

 I already do that anyway but you might be able to say you’ve spotted me - I’m with them tomorow, tuesday, wednesday and possibly thursday but I don’t know where I’m going as yet

I’ve decided though that It’s really not for me and I’ll be telling the agency so after christmas, I’m after getting my class 1 after christmas anyway so hopefuly I’ll be able to steer clear of some of the jobs I’m not so keen on
