Anyone actually stupid enough to work these longer hours? Not that anyone would admit it.
Everyone should say no. But no doubt they’ll be some who will do every hour they allowed to for an extra few quid

No DVSA for a few months.
Fill your boots
General consensus on forums and Facebook groups is they can sod off. I don’t think there’s that many people willing to work 7 days in a row with just an hour a day when they’re either not at work or supposed to be asleep.
Whatever the reasons are for drivers to refuse to use the relaxed hours, just remember that when the general public get to the shop and see the shelves empty they wont see how important trucks and drivers are. It wont dawn on them that hgvs are necessery and drivers should be treated with respect instead of moaned about or treated like dirt. They wont change their mindset about slow trucks holding them up on the road in future. They wont think the new hours are unsafe. They wont see you are quite right to stand our ground because of how you get treated at all other times.
All they will see is that when the shops were empty, truck drivers refused to work extra hours to keep shelves stocked.
The general public as a whole only see what they want to see. They wont join the dots and think back to the times theyve cursed lorries for holding them up, ranted on social media about how hgvs should be banned during rush hour or any of their other ill thought out rants and think that maybe lorries are more important than they realised now that their safely cocooned life bubble has burst.
When everything has calmed down, the reasons for why no one used the relaxed rules will either be lost or ignored and we will be painted as selfish and the “Ill only do it for a hefty hourly increase” comments will be seen/painted as the main reason.
You think the public hate us now, just wait till they see us as having refused to work extra to keep the shelves stacked and listened to their social media “friends” with any number of made up ■■■■■■■■ or ■■■■ stirring.
Who cares? They already think we’re lower than the dog crap they step in so it’s not really possible to be viewed any worse. Why should we basically work every hour we’re awake to bail out a bunch of turds who will only go back to what they’ve been doing to truck drivers for the last 20 years once this is all over?

This ^^^^^^^ 100%
Even now the idiots on the road are STILL driving like tossers because the lorry has held them up. ■■■ them…dont put your health before these selfish idiots that are stripping the supermarkets bare for no good reason than their own selfish demands!

+2.
Now on a Friday when it’s time to get home, Mmm I might consider using the new rules to my advantage…
Here we are.
Bit of a chance to improve any flaws in our image. A half chance to let the public see what our job entails and how the public benefit from having trucks in the road.
And we get a bunch of moaners wanting to screw the system so they get a pay rise, or bruised egos wanting go be hailed as heroes, or whatever.
I hope none of the above were previous posters in other threads about how
“We can all pull together”
“Britain, Great again”
Or how we are a united nation etc…

I know you and me don’t agree on a lot of things Mr F, but I never had you down as being that naive.
It’s CloudCuckoo land if you think for one minute that the public will give a flying ■■■■ about us when all this stuff is over, or care a jot what our job entails.
If you want to work over what are already ridiculously long hours, then crack on, but don’t knock others who can see through the bull ■■■■.
As for screwing the system, the system has screwed truckers for as long as I remember, so it would be a case of fighting fire with fire.

Happen we wont agree on this. If some have us down as selfish and uncaring drivers, if they see we consider ourselves above them in their tiny cars, then showing them we don
t give a toss about their supplies will do nothing, except reinforce their low opinions of us.
.
We never needed the system to screw us as an industry, we have managed quite well screwing each other for a while now.

+4. Agency want me to do Sainsbury’s tomorrow. And it got me thinking…erm, NO
I hope the shelves stay empty tomorrow while I am on the golf course. Treated like crap for ■■■■ poor wages for years on end and now I am needed as a ‘key worker’. [zb] off
It just dawned on me.
I’m going to work, whilst everybody else is sat at home on 80% pay.
With as much time as they like,to empty the shelves…before I get home.
And I can’t even go for a ■■■■■■■ pint!

You ought to be ashamed of yourself…that is not what made Britain great, think of the Dunkerque spirit man ffs!
(Just thought I’d be the first to have a pop at you about it.
)
Makes me wonder how all this is being paid for. I work all the way through it (fingers crossed I dont get it) delivering to stores, get through the other side and they raise income tax to 40% to pay for people sitting on their backside for a month or more. Am I exempt? Probably not, thanks for keeping the country fed now we are all in this together so cough up for tom ■■■■ and harry being out of work having their wages paid

We never needed the system to screw us as an industry, we have managed quite well screwing each other for a while now.
Refusing to work extra hours with even less rest in between, (on top of what is already ridiculously long hours ) is prudence and professionalism, and nothing whatsoever to do with ‘‘Not giving a toss about their supplies’’ or being ‘‘selfish and uncaring’’.
As for low public opinions, …well tbh I don’t give a ■■■■ anymore, tbf it’s hardly surprising we are looked upon in a negative way because of all the ■■■■ clowns among us.
Furthermore, ■■■■ heads teararsing about at all hours, driving extra hours whilst tired is only going to exacerbate said negative attitude.
As for screwing each other, I’ve been in this job long enough to conclude that is the nature of drivers, they are too ■■■■ thick to realise that we are in a job where we are depended on (as present situation confirms) so as one body we could demand better terms and conditions.
