Regina Lines: Harwich-Esbjerg

Has anyone heard what’s going on with the proposed new service from Harwich to Esbjerg? Heard it was all good to go around Easter but has fallen through. I know there used to be a freight service from Immingham which I presume still runs but I’m sure DFDS don’t accept cars or “non-freight” cargo on that crossing. Just a bit curious as there’s a chance that I might be working in Denmark later this year. I was hoping to try Norway again but it seems 100% easier to find a job with the Danes especially on anything to do with cranes or heavy haulage. Could do with a bit of info. on Southern Jutland (the peninsula on top of Germany) too. I’d imagine it to be something like Southern Lincolnshire and boring as hell but cheaper to live in than Zealand (a.k.a. “Copenhagen Island”). For those of you that may have some local knowledge I could also do with a bit of feedback on that well known heavy haulage and mobile crane hire firm based in Rødekro/Aabenraa called Skaks. Thanks.

Out of all of that, all I can tell you is that the DFDS Imm - Esb ferry is still running, but yes it’s freight only, and only 12 drivers.

Why don’t you call DFDS and see if they’ll ship your car with you as a passenger. I used to go on the Cuxhaven boat a lot and there was rarely 12 drivers on, I’d often be the only one and would imagine the Esbjerg boat being the same.

I think there is more pressure on the Esbjerg _immingham now though. Firstly the Harwich - Esbjerg boat stopped at the end of 2014 and the guys moving explosives use it since the Contentin came off the Western Channel.

I can’t always get the booking I want on that run any more.

Failing the Esbjerg sailing, he could always try the Cuxhaven one. Its not exactly that far to Jutland from there, especially by car.

Hi again Duck yes we’ve heard of this Regina thing too and reckon its some kind of weird prank cos no one in DFDS or Esbjerg Havn know anything about it. As for SKAK down at Rødekro think I see some new kranbils recently and also the fact they’ve taken over the 6 or so trucks from Kurt Beier working for Hakull from Norway. Seems to me theres loads of construction going on everywhere so presumably lots of kran work, also wind industry massive. BMS kran og lift a big firm in this with q a few depots so could be worth looking up. HTH

Thanks for the replies. Have sent you a PM Short Walk.

Re. the DFDS situation I know for a fact that you can get on the Brevik, Norway boat from Immingham and get a cabin at a reasonable rate (works out much cheaper than driving all the way) as I was booked on it last year but they don’t confirm availability until 48 hours before departure. Passengers were allowed on the Sunday crossing but they can’t confirm anything until Friday afternoon as freight traffic takes priority which is understandable.

The official line re. Esbjerg was that they wouldn’t be accepting any private traffic as due to the Harwich service closing down more pressure would be placed on this route and therefore it’s supposedly freight only.

According to the Regina website the ship they have chartered from February has fallen through but they hope to start running soon. Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence as last year it appeared as though they were actively taking bookings but now they haven’t even got a boat by the looks of it!

There are a lot of specialist lift and shift companies in Denmark which has probably got at least something to do with the wind turbine industry as mentioned. It has been rather surprising to get several responses from Danish companies even though I have contacted them in Norwegian. Just a shame the 2 languages sound completely different when spoken as I can read Dansk ok but as soon as they open their gob and start making those clucking-chicken sounds crossed with a scouser gone wrong I haven’t got a ■■■■■■■ clue what they are saying. Luckily most of them do speak perfect English and a bit of Norwegian.

I’ve seen a few car drivers on the brevik dfds boat and motor homes, motorbikes all accompanied I’ve also seen some Norwegians use it to buy cars in the UK and ship drive back to Norway why don’t you try tipp transport in porsgrunn near brevik for a job,

Definitely be cautious of paying up front for this Regina thing, specially if they haven’t got a boat.
I remember 25 odd years ago another firm was going to start doing passenger ferries to northern Spain from Portsmouth (I think), called British Iberian Lines (or something similar) they didn’t even have a boat but were taking bookings in advance for when it started running, the boat was called MV Maiden Castle. I nearly booked 4 places for a motorbike holiday.
Turned out to be one big fiddle in the end, the boat was fictional and a lot of people lost a few quid.

I was going to say the same, not the most inspiring cross I’ve ever had, and have opted for driving over the past couple of years.

A lady appears to give you dinner and sell you beer, then you don’t see a sole! Don’t forget a good book - and headphones to drown out the driver ■■■■■■■■ !

Thanks for the advice might be on there tomorrow night out of Esbjerg

Regina is just another fantasists pipe dream. There’s lots of them in the ferry industry, dream of running their own ferry on routes that haven’t worked when run by some of the biggest Ferry companies on earth, yet they think they have the golden ticket! Suppose you get a few lads like that with trucks tho, they go out and budget for a new R730 to pull containers
