Rikki-UK:
Terry and SMcaul
you are both part of the admin team on your own website for drivers, where you have certain (very few ) rules. It seems that you are very vocal on things regarding TruckNet UK both here and on your own website.
It really confuses me that you put so much effort into being negative about TruckNet UK when you have your own website to look after.
You have made your points and they have been answered. You dont like this take over, you have stated that too. that is an opinion you are entitled too.
It is quite strange tho that the vast majority of people who use this website are quite happy to continue posting as usual and dont see this thread as something that needs a comment. whereas the admin team from your website fel the need to post quite a lot
IF TruckNet UK is not for you, then utalise your own web space and grow your membership , put as much effort into making your website a success as you do in being negative here then you will probably have a highly succesful drivers website in no time at all.
You are again missing the point Rikki, on many levels. For one thing we dont “Have our own website”, It is a site that exists because of the people who post on it - no one owns it, no one has responsibility for it on the type of level you are implying.
As for people posting etc about the buy out, parato’s law comes into play on it, 20% of us will give you 80% of the headaches. What you will see is that the people who have posted on the matter have high posting figures anyway - so just maybe they feel they have a right to vent their views, or is that now against “Company Policy”
Once again it seems that if people put an opposing view to yours then it must be wrong and we should all go elsewhere, so much for a forum for discussion where debate can take place!!!
ohterry:
now why on earth would you say something like that. you 4get, ive been a member of t/n a long time me old fruit.
Yes you have and you run a Drivers website where you would Prefer everyone to go to see a certain parties posts
Foul disgusting language, no regards for anyone’s viewing, lets see Trucknet users come across to this site blah blah blah.
One person was not responsible for Trucknets content, despite anyones opinion, yes he made some valid points but always had to push the boundaries, give an inch and he took a yard. the strange thing Terry, is the fact this site is still running and popular without his posts except for the ones that need to be dragged up from the bottom rather childishly of course.
If you do have a thought for Trucknet as an old timer then you will be happy to see many new posters in the future when the site gets the advertising it needs to make more people aware of its existence. At present I would guess that only 25% of truck drivers with internet access are aware of its existence, because its presently not advertised enough.
One thing that I do wonder though?, will you be spamming new members with Private Messages advising of another Site they can go to
Despite the objections to Spamming, pop up ads, privacy
etc
Not at all SMcaul
I was just commenting on how the vast majority of members are happily posting away as normal and the vocal minority are on the admin team elswhere

So what is wrong with that? It is not like we are trying to “Recruit Members”. as members of TN are we not allowed to have our own views etc?
Did I say there was anything wrong with it, I am sure that you have no other motive than to post your negative views on TruckNet UK and it change of ownership.
But you have made your points time and time again and they have been answered time and time again,
As has been said, even by you, only time will truly tell how this change will pan out in the long term.
So I will say Happy Christmas, and heres to a new year that hopefully wont be full of too many nasty surprises for any of us …
Coffeeholic:
Sometimes you have to take people at their word until you know otherwise.
As I said Neil, I have seen and heard all the carp before, Money talks, and when it does people generally walk
True, but until I see different I am prepared to take that statement at face value. It is a fact of this industry that the people who work in it don’t take changes kindly and always look for the bad in everything, more often than not the fears are unfounded. If changes for the worse do happen then it is very easy to walk, it’s not as if there is anything, such as a subscription, keeping any of us here.
Rule No 1. Driver’s do not like change.
Rule No 2. If changes are imminent, see Rule No 1.
Well I am sure it wont be long until the only posts we see are:-
“Oh what a jolly good time I had today in [ZB] (Tesco’s has been deleted for fear of legal action), we were sat there having a spiffing good chin wag with lashings of vimto (Vimto is allowed as they advertise on the backpage of one of RBI’s obscure publications) to drink, The kind gentlemen at the goods in window were such fun, I could hardly contain my excitement when I received my delivery notes with a cheery smile, so I bid them a fond farewell and skipped out to my nice shiny [ZB] (Volvo are 2 weeks late paying an invoice so are on a temporary ban until further notice) - oh what a joy the day has been”
Tramper:
I am not prepared to pay and will be off as soon as we have to,
Me too, not that I think it will happen but if it does I would be off. And here’s the real kicker, life would go on regardless, which is why I can’t understand all those who don’t like TN coming back again and again and again. Don’t like it, don’t use it because there are plenty of other sites out there and they are all different so there must be one to suit.
But I do like it, thats why I’m very wary of the changes a foot. I realise that people never like change, I just don’t think it will be too long before this change is proved to be detremental to the way I, and others enjoy this site, i.e a subscription will be required. Maybe not to access the whole site, but certainly to gain access to say “Members areas”.
well, perhaps RBI see trucknetuk as threat to the future of there vast empire ? and perhaps in the future it will swallow up trucknet into it’s empire…how many companys have bought out smaller companys saying there will be no changes? and within a few months it is gone for good…
Rikki,
will they do something about the spammers that are registering on trucknet ?,will they or have they looked at the members list, having over 4,000 members…how many are robot registrations?..and yes my site onlinetruckers is or was suffering from this robot registrations, all sorted by the way…
Perhaps a vote of thanks for the members that have kept trucknet alive with there post’s? dont forget they where your commodity without them there was nothing to sell…
Davey Driver:
I Honestly cant see any reason for the sceptics to come out with the comments that they are.
Rikki originally, then assisted Lucy has supported this site financially from its beginning, I for one am very pleased that Rikki and Lucy have finally had the financial weight lifted off their shoulders for keeping this site going, if anyone deserves it these two people do.
Reed is a big company, yes they may have an Agenda to ensure they recoup their investment plus more, its called business. Rikki says they dont plan on changing anything, I believe him, why the hell would he want to lie about it? Then look a fool afterwards?
Reed are proabably sittting back quite sensibly and thinking the best way forward, in fact if they have been in negotiations for the past few months then they probably have an idea as to which way it is going to go. If this means a few extra Pages added to the site where they are selling adverts then good luck to them, after all, the site is remaining a free public access site, is that not the main IMPORTANT point?
If they were to add a few pages where you can click to view advertisments then your choice is still there, click to view dont click if you dont want to view, I’ll re-iterate the main point, the site will still be free and its future is now guaranteed, its not that long ago where we were all discussing the pro’s and cons of making payments to the site to help keep it going, and Yes both Rikki and Lucy declined every offer from drivers wishing to make donations.
Good Luck Rikki and Lucy and I hope the deal was an excellent one to help you both recoup the costs you have both ploughed in over the year’s.
I will say Welcome to RBI and lets hope that 2007 will be a more prosperous year for Trucknet UK and its members, regardless WHO owns the site.
Well said Davey.
The man who so successfully ran his own company, and since it went ■■■■ up, has done nothing but whinge about having been shafted by the "investor/purchaser.
I have been drawn to this thread by postings on other sites, although I have been a member for a while, yet do not post very often, the reason being, I got ■■■■■■ off with the constant abuse some members wanted to dish out to anyone who disagreed with there personal opinion. This is a site for drivers, and if through the change of ownership it remains free to all, and a place where you can put forward a point of view, albeit edited if the moderators feel you have overstepped the mark, why not give it a chance. The world is constantly changing, and any financial reward Ricki & Lucy have recieved they have earnt through there efforts in building the popularity of this site over the years, lets give RBI a chance,to improve this site, and maybe I will visit more often if they can add to the content here, Lets remember sometimes things do change for the better.we will see in 2007
Any site, worth its salt, does not run on air. In some way, shape or form it is necessary to keep the lights on around here. Rikki made those “investments” for years, along with help from family and friends. What would have happened to the site had he not done so? Finally those investments are coming to fruition to help insure the lights will remain on. Rikki and many others saw the potential in this site and stuck with it through thick and then, good times and bad, for the long haul. Even so, it is the growth by the members of the site which carried the site to where it is today. So, in essences, it’s ALL your fault that TruckNet UK is headed forward. Congratulations to all.
