Reduced weekly rest.

Hi,
I’m looking for some advice in relation to reducing weekly rest.
My understanding is that every other week I must take a full WRP of 45 hrs. However I have heard and read that in some circumstances it is possible to take a reduced WRP on two consecutive weeks provided adequate compensation is taken.
I don’t understand what makes this possible or even if it is correct.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It can be possible as a one off but certain things must happen
Sunday midnight must be used as part of each weekly rest so that the rest can be used for the fixed week before or after the rest
The weekly rests must start off being at the start of each fixed week and then switched to the end of each fixed week

I’ll do an example…
Week holliday - using the last 45 hours of those holls as the regular weekly rest for the first week below
work mon to sat
off sun = reduced weekly rest = used for the second week below
work mon to sat
off sun = reduced weekly rest = not used as weekly rest for any week
work mon to fri
off sat + sun = regular weekly rest used for the third week above

It is possible to have 2 consecutive reduced weekly rest periods but unless you understand how it works I would advise against it.

Yeah I know that Rog but I can just see drivers getting caught out it ok saying extra OT but when it comes to pay back your no better off are you really. then you have to make dammed sure your legal even before you attempt it .

Yeah I know that Rog but I can just see drivers getting caught out it ok saying extra OT but when it comes to pay back your no better off are you really. then you have to make dammed sure your legal even before you attempt it .

A better understanding would be no defence. get it wrong and the TC will hang you out to dry, like I’ve said keep it simple stay with the standard weekly rest periods.

The OP is being very sensible and asking on an open site like this so they do not get into hot water

A good understanding of the regulations and the OP won’t need any defence though will he :wink:

You do understand that you can only do this for certainty once after a holiday/leave of 90 or more hours, and only then if you start work on Monday or later after the leave ?

I agree with Nick that it’s best to keep it simple where possible, but it doesn’t hurt to know how you can manipulate the weekly rest periods when you need to :wink:
