Hi guys.
Big respect to all of you contributing to this particular thread.
It is a very complicated subject.
Here is a comment straight from the heart of a newbie to the trucking world.
The amount of correspondence on this thread simply highlights what an absolute load of
tripe all of this EU red tape and bureaucracy is on drivers hours etc.
How childish are the EU commissioners who have allowed this tripe to become law!
Why can’t they have simple, easy to understand and enforceable rules that everybody can understand by applying common sense. God Help Us All with these idiots ruling us.
These rules are not fit for purpose. The people who have developed these rules are not fit for purpose.
it is just another example of idiots in power feathering their own nests against the vast majority of normal sane human beings who are simply trying to make enough wage to pay the taxes that pay the wages of the aforesaid morons.
Nobody will do anything about it and we will all just put up with it, because in the final analysis
BIG BROTHER KNOWS BEST! BIG BROTHER LOVES US ALL!

They have.

Don’t drive for more than 4.5 hours without a break of 45 minutes, you can make that 15 minutes and 30 minutes if you want to, or it fits in better with your work pattern. Once you have had a total of 45 minutes you have another 4.5 hours to play with, provided you remember rule 2 below.
-
Don’t drive for more than 9 hours total in your shift, twice a week though you can do 10 hours if it helps. Don’t drive for more than 56 hours in any week or 90 in any two consecutive weeks.
-
Before the clock gets back round to the time you started your shift make sure you have 11 hours off. Three times between your weekly rest periods you can drop that to 9 if it makes things easier. If you and your mate do the shift together it’s 9 hours off before the clock gets to 30 hours from when you started.
-
Make sure you start a new weekly rest period of 45 hours no later than 144 hours after finishing your last one. Every second week you can reduce that to a minimum of 24 hours if it means you can get home or crack on and earn a few quid, if you do reduce it please make up that amount of hours within the next 3 weeks.
-
There are some work specific regulations such as for those who use ferries or trains or who spend at least 3 hours a day sat on their are but you can forget all that stuff if you don’t do any of it.

There you are, that’s the rules we have to work to and couldn’t really be more simple.
Well until you mix the MMTM, MTMTM, MDTTM, MDCPCTTM, MCMTM or my personal favourite VTM.WTDRBILTA* rules in with those 5 paragraphs and then it just gets confusing.
*MMTM: My Mate Told Me
MTMTM: My Transport Manager Told Me
MDTTM: My Driver Trainer Told Me
MDCPCTTM: My Driver’s CPC Trainer Told Me
MCMTM: My Compliance Manager Told Me
VTM.WTDRBILTA: VOSA Told ME. Well They Didn’t Really But I’m Losing This Argument.
Hi,
I did a Post Reply at 5:59, but the system seems to have simply reproduced Mr. Coffeholic’s previous post in place of my post.
is there a glitch in the system?
or did I press Save instead of submit■■?
Help, I am going insane (I think).
Anyway thanks for your post summarising the EU drivers hours rules.
I am going to print your reply and use it as my in cab guide.

No, they didn’t but you did…and thanks VERY much for doing so
i can understand the need for the regulations to be written in a “legaleeze” manner to make the rules enforceable, but a version written in “Plain English” such as how you have presented them would’ve been nice!
Cheers, Nez
