On my way to Cricklewood yesterday, decided to stop at the Red Lion and indulge in breakfast…NEVER AGAIN.
3 eggs swimming in grease, with one plum tomato, one sausage, overcooked mushrooms. The only saving grace was the griddled bacon which was small and scrawny. Even the tea tasted like the scrapings off the lorry park.

I’ve had a bacon and egg sandwich there which was much the same but the dinners were good ,I had full breakfast at markham moor that was excellent but I didnt rate their dinners .
There is a few of the good old cafes going down hill of late. Two of my favorites that I have been using for over 25 years have gone to crap over last 6 months.

windy ridge south of saltash was a great place till the owner tarted it up to encourage the holiday traffic a coaches , that was the end of that for trucks then, Bodmin, Lifton down, The cathrine wheel , Monty’s, all gone
If you deliver to the Kanes factory near Evesham, they do a nice breakfast. I have 2eggs 2 bacon hash browns and mush rooms. Slice of toast. Sml carton of juice. And a filled baguette to take away for lunch £2.55. Only shame is machine drinks but only 25p
I went in the “holeshot cafe” at the bottom of the A12 near Martlesham, Ipswich. its an old coach thats now a cafe!! 5 star health and hygiene rating, and bloody good brekkie £7 for a large all in including tea. locally produced sausages, locally reared and smoked bacon and local fresh free range eggs! not greasy, just cooked perfectly… its absolutely DELICIOUS! so good I went again 2 days later

We go there didn’t know they had a canteen you can use, where is it?
hmm full fried breakfast and that was everything on it / complete with toast and bread and butter and a mug of tea < hot tea at that I can remember paying £1.25 at imperial tobacco in Bristol and in Safeway it was £1.50
I have found the food very good at the Red Lion.
The owners are kind to drivers, and have spent a lot of money there.
The evening meal choice is varied and good value for money.
I can not comment on the breakfast you had.
They are trying to buy more land to make the parking bigger.
But two land owners refuse to budge.
It gets full very early and is very popular.
Maybe your breakfast was a one off.
If you told them at the time,it could have been sorted there and then.
Failing that, stop in a wee ridden layby and eat in a burger van.

If you are unloading at top. Go through double doors next to the two bays and go up stairs. Straight on into canteen. Make sure you have change they frown at notes a bit. If you go through doors in canteen and turn right then right again you there are the cleanest toilets ever in a factory too.

I suppose that answers why trucks are parked on the access and exit slip roads to the joint making it a squeeze for manoeuvring tricks, I thought they were just titeasses who didn’t want to pay to park.
