Is it a drivers responsibility to re torque wheels weekly. I was led to believe that a driver did his daily walk around checks and reported defects. If a wheel works loose surely there’s a fault ie a stretched stud or the wheel wasn’t cleaned up before refitting. We are being told to re torque every wheel once a week with a torque wrench before or after a full shift. Is this the correct procedure?
It may very well be company policy to do this, it is their train set after all and presumably they’re paying you to carry out this action. It is not however a legal requirement to retorque your wheels daily, weekly or whatever.
