Re Febland Europa

G’day trucker Blackpool,
Great looking model by the way. What did you use to make the hatcher style sun visor on the 141? It looks spot on mate,I’ve been wondering with what to use to make one with
I reckon you should post those pics on the Truck model world web site.
Cheers Jamie

MaggieD:
Hi,
Great shots of the Sopa Speedy trucks, chap named Sig.Ripomonti was there, he left Avanderro’s in Novara after many years. Anyone know if they are still going ?
Regards MaggieD

I only recall one chap from Sopa Speedy, Bruno, his family name escapes me. (its an age thing)!!

Been asked by a friend to post some random photos. Here’s the first, obviously a much photographed truck!

If you look on page two of the site there are some pictures of SVO in Atkins colours with a Febland Supercube on.

I’d noticed that TB, hence my comment about it being much photographed. I think it looks much better in Richardson’s colours.

From what my friend said, Sopa was set up by somebody who left Feblands.

From what my friend said, Sopa was set up by somebody who left Feblands.

Sopa UK Ltd, was set up in about 1983 or 1984 by Kevin Johnstone, who was previously a Director of Febland Europa. If I recall correctly Kevin started up as a freight forwarder and forged links with Sopa, setting up Sopa UK. There was quite a bit of friction at the time between Feblands and Sopa, especially Sopa UK took on some of the Febland drivers and employees, ahem, including me.
I am not sure as to the background but I think Sopa UK ceased trading in 1986 or 1987. As far as I know Kevin went on to run a hotel in Blackpool, I have not seen him for over 20 years. I must say Tony Febland and Kevin Johnstone were both diamonds and I was treated well learning a lot from them both.
As an aside, Richardson Traction bought an ex-Sopa, Volvo F1225, A946 VMH. A real beast of a truck, which went on to be driven by Byron Grimshaw for some years.

Here it is. I am sure Premier will not mind.

Oh the other truck in the phote, A995 USU, I built a model of that one as well.

Hi great models i remember a driver from Kirkham on SOPAS called Billy cant think of his surname i am sure he drove the Volvo F12 we bought. Roy Winard called in with this picture of his Scania 110 super on the M63 In 1975

Here is a picture from Byron Grimshaws collection of some old Febland drivers Peter Howitt and Ivor Whittle on Mont Ceins on the way back from Italy

Peter Howitt

Ivor Whittle

Hi Wayne, The driver from Sopa was Billy Reid he lived at Kirkham, he had a scottish accent. I think he ran a couple of Renaults when he left Sopa.

Hi, great to see the Scania 110 from Roy. If memory serves me correct Roy used to drive the Beige coloured F!2 for Sopa UK, didn’t he?
Anyway here is one of Sopa’s that Roy did drive

ORH 920 W. I cannot remember where this was taken at. I had Roy’s gobstopper when he was off. I remember a driver approaching me who had the F12 when it was new. Apparently it was one of two bought by Brian Yardley, ORH 919W and ORH 920W. Apparently ORH 919W was used as a test vehicle by the motoring press and 920W ot none of he limelight. How right this was I am not sure, but not a bad recall after more than 20 years.

Hi, I have been trolling through some old photos and come across some of the Febland crew. Premier or anyone put names to the faces

Give you a clue with this one. The bearded one is Tony Febland himself

Premier, a bit of a clue on this one, the nearest on the left, ITS YOU!!

in the preceeding 2 snaps I can identify GR WR VC and Byron, before that is Mr & Mrs Febland and Tibor and Dextor

Oh yes, that was when Byron (legend of this site) was between his Adam Ant and Wham new romantic stage of dressing!!

For anyone fortunate not to have met him, he is the one stood at the back looking down his nose at me.

It may seem a daft question, but has anyone spoken to Tony Febland, does he know of the sites existance. It is a couple of years since I have spoken to him. I am sure he would appreciate these imputs.

I have him as a friend on facebook, find me find him and send a message facebook.com/profile.php?id= … #/afebland
