Rdc work class 1

Maybe a bit of a silly question but with all the horror stories i hear and experience of previous traffic offices is it at all possible that you can end up running out of duty time. ie 5 hours from base to rdc 5 hours back total of 11.5 hours of duty time only leaves 4.5 hours to be tipped and any delays etc if my calculations are correct

Obviously, Yes.
It nearly happened to me.
30mins vehicle check, 2 hrs to RDC, 6 hrs waiting for labels to be printed, 1 HR being loaded without any labels, 5 hrs driving back and unloading 2 locations. And that was the training day [emoji1787]

It’s all about planning the latest time that you are willing to leave the RDC and whether that means driving back solo because they’re still dealing with your trailer.

Shouldn’t happen though [emoji23]

In a nutshell YES unless duty time has changed to 16 hrs you would only have 3.5 hrs tipping and even less if you take into account logging on /off at start and end of shift

" be prepared at the start of each shift that you may have to night out in the vehicle if a serious delay occurs. "
allegedly some company handbooks have this guidance.

Last time I got anywhere near running out of hours , I was pulled out by the company , just inform them well in advance of the situation , and theyl get onto the place tipping you , theyl either get you tipped to give you time to get back , or as I say load gets pulled out & rebooked in I guess
Sainsbury / Asda I’ve changed over with another lad who has more time to tip load , I just took his empty tri , sainsbury / Asda fine about it

Let’s take a typical example which I’ve done many times. Some will want to argue the toss and say they can do it more quickly. With luck and fast turn around times it is achievable. Summer Fridays not so good, running out of time (15) at Snodland.
Start Sittingbourne. Usually 45 minutes to get out of the yard. Drive to Tesco RDC Severn Beach Avonmouth 175 miles 3.75 hrs (maybe 15 mins at Membury). Wait & Tip 1.5hrs. Drive 125 miles to packhouse off Hanger Lane Park Royal 2.5hrs. (Wait) & self load 1.5hrs. Drive 70 miles to Tesco Snodland RDC 1.5hrs. Wait & tip 1.25 hrs. Drive 20 miles to Sittingbourne .75hr, Refuel, park trailer & unit return delivery notes etc .25hrs+. That’s just shy of 14hrs and 400 miles. Sometimes there might be a split load with Asda or Sainsburys Bristol 1st drop.
