Just been round to cast my vote and met up with a neighbour, Phil Darlington.
He informed me that Ray Gould had died a couple of weeks ago.
Ray was a seasoned middle east driver and was great fun to be with, a very good friend of Phil Bunch, (Bunchy).
Apparently his wife died not so long ago, then Ray developed a very aggressive cancer and passed away within a few weeks.
I’ll see you at the end of that long road Ray, Rest in Peace.
Hi Ian, that’s very sad news about Gouldy. I remember meeting him once at Carrisio when he was on for Moorlocks along with Bunchy and another Moorlocks driver called Steve back in the late eighties. I think it was Ray or Phil Bunch who dropped his trailer and another three drivers piled in to go to a great little restaurant that he had been to before which was about 10 klms away.
Alan Morrey who used to work with Ray and Phil at Thor in the early seventies dropped his trailer and my wife and I joined them for a great Saturday night out. Wood fired Italian pizzas, great wine (not that Frizzanti crap) and extremely interesting company.
R.I.P. Phil and thanks for a great night out all those years ago.
Sincere condolences, Steve and Christine.
