Radio

Where I work we have some 53 reg DAF 95XF’s. The one I am using at the moment has 37,000kms on the clock.

Everything a guy could want! Aircon, Electric/heated mirrors, etc.

The only thing that lets it down is the radio/CD player.

Everytime you touch the thing it turns itself off. You then have to wait for it to restart itself and then try again.

On my way back from Bristol this morning it took me 10 minutes to change from track 07 on the CD to track 13!

This is not just on the vehicle that I am driving but all of the 95XF’s.

We also have some 85CF’s and they have the same problem as well as the volume control being very dodgy.

You would think that with a vehicle costing £60-£80k that they would put in a decent radio/CD player?

I can understand old vehicles with old radios being a bit worse for wear but new radio’s!

Does anybody else have this problem

I’ve been in a 52-reg XF all week and haven’t had any probs with the radio, fwiw.

I bet he is dead chuffed about that!! :open_mouth:

jd is it a VDO cd/radio if it is get it changed as there a load of ■■■ a firm i used to work for had the same problem with there cf dafs until they put another make of radio in

Yep, I bet its a VDO set with a little disc that removes for security - when fitted it skips tracks etc etc?? Am I right so far??

They are crap. You can temporarily improve things by scoring the metal disc contacts on the rear of the removable bit with a sharp object to make sure it has a good contact … or you can bin it and buy a nice Blauplunkt DAB set like I did.

Good riddence to bad rubbish IMO

The one on the XF I had was a VDO one with that same removable disc. Still no problems, maybe I was just lucky.

It is the VDO model that is fitted in all our DAF 95XF’s.

And from the reaction I have had on here it looks like it is a well known problem.

The chances of getting them changed for a different make is nil.

Rob must be the lucky one!

Yep, the VDO stereo is crap. Before that they used to put in Clarion ones which were good. On some Y-reg ones they put in a very basic Grundig radio, that must have come from Poundstretchers. Now they were crap.
Had a 53 95XF last night with a VDO in and it didn’t go off when you touched it, but had the usual problem of not staying on station, even though I had AF on.

Yep,have driven on two fleets with VDO radios and experienced the probs you had.Why don’t DAF address this problem and fit something else?

Got those in the ickle 7.5 tonner 04 DAF’s too…

Best of all is after 10 minutes of messing about, you decide to pops the disc out, and it falls on the floor… :imp: :imp: :unamused:

Chrisie… :sunglasses:

you never know someone from DAF might read this and do somthing about it if alpine is good enough for the special edition why not the rest of there motors.so come on DAF youve got top quality trucks that poeple want to drive so why spoil em with a cheap and nasty radios.
