Quickish tacho question

Hi all new here so be gentle… Just a question… Been driving for many years using the manual tacho’s without any problems. After a 8 year career break from driving I find myself once again in the driving seat. Anyway, loaded with my new digi card I started my days work clocking in at 7 am. Done my checks and out the yard by 7.30am. Got to 12.45 and had a full hour break back at my depot. At 1.45 I switched mode back onto ‘other work’ and waited further instructions from my gaffa…Then told I’m out in the van for the afternoon (no tacho fitted) to this vehicle. I then locked up my wagon with the tacho still in on cross axes for the remainder of the day till around 6pm. Went back to my truck that was still parked and locked, switched tacho onto the bed and ended my day retrieving my card. So to summerise ; 7 am clocked in
7.30am started driving
went on break at 12.45 for 1 hour (after accumilating only 3 hours ‘continuous’ driving from 7.30am-12.45pm)
1.45pm switched back off break and onto cross hammers.Left tacho card (in locked wagon) in this mode for remainder of the day till 6pm. Put on bed, ejected card, went home.

Have I done anything wrong by recording my daily activities in this way.

Apologies for waffling on… Cheers, poonarkie.

Brace yourself. You will probably end up with 10 different answers here. Tacho questions seem to have this effect.

No you have done it correct as far as I can see, no need for printouts or anything, no need for POA or a WTD break as you have not reached 6 hours.

As long as you booked off in the right country it seems ok

What would you do if your motor is going to be used by someone else Mr Nut, and you can’t lock it up?
Manual entry?

Thanks mate thought I’d done the right thing but wanted to know what you guys thought about it as it may be a regular occurence… Other reason I left it in x hammers was because there was a slight possibility after going out in the van i’d have to do maybe another drop in the wagon later that afternoon… later found not to be the case. We’ve one set of vehicle keys which I had put in the key safe, plus I’m the only hgv driver on site so seemed the right thing to do. Thanks again,

Take your card out and do a manual entry when you come back, or the following day if not possible

Obviously if you were taking a different vehicle out with an analogue unit, you would remove your driver card as it would be illegal to be driving inscope without carrying the card. But you don’t need to carry the card when you go to the supermarket with the wife :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless delivering to said supermarket.

Unless delivering to said supermarket.

But then you could put the tacho on break and make her unload the cages while you have a snooze :stuck_out_tongue:

You should have taken your card with you, it’s a legal requirement.

Why?

Ive heard that one too. I was told on a CPC course (yeah, yeah i know :unamused:  ) that if you drive a non tacho fitted vehicle, you need to have your card with you at all times. Obviously, if you need to take it outa the VU, just do a M.E latter.

You must able to produce your card when requested by the relevant authorities. The card is needed to produce a record of your activities if asked for. You know this Mr Nut!

You are recording your activities on the original locked vehicle, while you are “out in the van”, whether that is the fitters van collecting parts from a dealer, or doing a run to the fish shop, you wouldn’t need your card with you.

Don’t be obtuse and confusing people. If he is driving a company vehicle and doing other work for the company then he must have his digi card.
