Quick court process

This seems to have flown through if I read correctly it happened at the start of the week.

Guilty plea perhaps.

doesnt mention anyone being hurt but i guess as the police seized dashcam footage there is no way of denying it. However the sentance seems a little quick and harsh. Especially considering all the video and physical evidence of Rudakubana but that went on for months with him on bail or all the video evidence of the brothers causing mayhem at manchester airport that still hasnt been resolved.

oh come on, lets not compare one sentence with another, that’s pointless.
The fact remains he reversed a bloody truck on a road at night.
Car drivers are dopey at the best of times, and at night they can’t see in half the distance they need to stop. It could have turned into carnage.
The sentence was suspended, so the length reflects a little, the potential for disaster, the suspension reflects it fortunately didn’t happen. And don’t forget, he’d get out in 10 or 12 weeks anyway. All he needs to do is behave for a year. And he was banned anyway, so he’s got time to consider his career choice seeing as most companies now wouldn’t hire him.

As someone who has reversed back down a bit of a slip road , took m62 exit , not a1 decades apx ago , and with a baby screaming in the back of the car ended up on Blackpool tram track ( bloody amazed a Nissan primera would go up over those kerbs on tram track without beaching itself ) so it’s not really for me to judge him .
Though this looks a lot more dangerous as he’s on the main carriage way , you need to hear what his actual thinking was , I’m guessing , didn’t know road , thought he’d have to go miles &milled , office watching on tracker , panicked , tired ( says no abode) .

I would guess the brown envelope from the Traffic Commissioner then a meeting to discuss the future of the vocational licence.

jail for reversing a lorry along the road 5 yards… bloody stupid granted but really. in the great scheme of things when people are walking away from worse crimes with no jail. I wonder how many youths have been arrested for carrying a knife in london this week and not seen a court room let alone have the threat of prison hanging over their heads for 12 months

How does it seem harsh reversing on a bloody dual carriageway because you missed your junction instead of just carrying on to the next junction and turning around.

Sadly there are too many drivers that drive like they might in their own countries and ignore our laws, let alone the home grown idiots we seem to be breeding these days that are just as inept and useless at a basic task of driving with even the slightest amount of road craft.

Deserves all he got no if’s no buts.

it seems harsh when some toerag gets stopped with a knife and doesnt even get a warning let alone 24 weeks inside… what do you think he was going to do with it cut up apples for a little old lady

The justice system we have works pretty well although granted not 100%. We have a much better justice system then most countries and probably the best jails as well.

The issue is not everyone can be sent to jail we simply don’t have the space, so sometimes they have to use other types of sentencing for crimes, and it always depends on what can and cant be proven, and also sometimes errors in the justice system means a prosecution can’t go ahead or they can’t give someone the sentence they should have had.

It’s not perfect but it’s the best we have got.

so why not send the deserving to jail then rather than some poor sod that chose to reverse 5 yards rather than drive x amount of miles to the next junction or roundabout.

how about the manchester airport pair thats on cctv and filmed by members of the public they havent been sentanced in 2 days it took months for them to decide if the coppers were at fault. or as i said when some toerag is caught with a knife… do something dont just shrug ya lefty shoulders and claim it isnt his fault.

You can’t compare one case to another every case is tried on the evidence and all the rest of the factors involved and are heard by different judges whose job it is to decide the punishment. Some judges are maybe too lenient and some are maybe too strict. But at the end of the day if you abide by laws then your unlikely to have to worry.

Simply laws exist for a reason otherwise there would be chaos all the time.

british law says you can that is why it is called law. There are certain things that you cant do by law. like carrying a knife. what the driver did is not illegal. however could be classed as dangerous driving.

the real reason your bent out of shape about this and not questioning what the hell happened is this is another blatent example of two tier policing form the king of leftys

I’m not bent of shape I’m just telling you the many reasons why things seem as they are.

You are also forgetting he’s supposed to be a professional HGV driver another reason why he is held to a much higher standard of driving and why the sentence in your opinion seems harsh.

Play silly games win stupid prizes it really is as simple as that.

Anyone defending that kind of driving need to question their own driving ability that is for sure.

As for sentencing like I said it depends on a lot of factors why some get harsher sentences and some get less harsh penalties.

You also can compare law cases when they are of the same type of crime not apples and oranges.

Some cases do indeed set a precedence that can be referred too in future cases.

There are published guide lines out there for sentencing.

Indeed the do have guidelines for sentencing but the judge can seem a lesser or harsher punishment dependant upon the severity of the crime.

I agree the original thread content isn’t the worst of crimes but could have been very bad and the driver wouldn’t have a leg to stand on for his actions, hence that and the fact he was a professional HGV driver allegedly he got quite a severe punishment although I believe I read it was a suspended sentence anyway. So as long as he behaves for that time then it’s a very lenient sentence.

I imagine the traffic commissioner will want a chat and will slip in without any lube though so he will get a second punishment most likely.
