Question about US dolly

I was looking photos on hankstruckpictures and saw this. Is this common type of dolly you use over there?

I mean about springs under fifth wheel and it looks like it doesn’t have any other suspension than that. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: After little time I noticed super singles which I suppose not to be common over there? What kind of coupling device you use with these? I gues that it’s “old style” hook (I don’t know correct term but I don’t mean this kind device).

Pretty much mate… Many of them have steel suspension on the axles, but I’ve never seen a dolly with air suspension. Some have brakes some don’t.

No brakes :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

So there are lorries in the US doing 100km/h (or more?) without decent brakes… Just like in Russia

Yes, a good percentage of the single-axle dollies here in the states are like that, but most use conventional springs. I’ve never seen a dolly with air springs. Also, all axles on a truck have brakes. Another thing about that dolly is the use of ‘super-single’ tyres-that’s very unusual in the states. A dolly such as this is hooked using a pintle hook.

This dolly is owned by FedEx ground, a company which through purchasing smaller carriers is now rivalling UPS in the person-to-person delivery business.
