Puddle jumper short day diary

This guy is one of our regulars he has been building this for a while so ive been in and out of this driveway a few times I think when I went there first time his neighbours gate was intact but he explasined they get on very well and he is going to replace it.

The biggest problem is climbing over the small wall o/s to get to the back of the truck its even harder when you are as stupid as me and forget to put the P.T.O. in and have to go back again !!!.

Its nice to have some space on either side.

BUT YES he has had bigger than that in there !!!

It takes a couple of shunts to get in but where theres a will theres a way and im sure Santa will be bringing me a little bottle of something for it.

Off to the next job and its a collection Jewsons are one of the few merchants that dont charge for re-stocking its always best as a builder to have too much than too little and not have to run back for another 100 bricks etc etc .

Next job is in the local traveller site its not true what they say as some of these guys are really nice people .

That White rock has been moved several times by myself and the back wheel !!!.

At least I can see whats behind me on the straight bit !!!

Not much space on the N/S either !!! but we get in .

Back to the yard with my collection and reloaded for the timber dyers in Nottingham possibly a night out  as it might take me over my usual 120k daily distance.

These are good for strapping down as the sides of my truck are quite high so chucking the straps over the top with something lower than the sides is a waste of time dont tell the TM though he thinks you can chuck straps over the top of everything from the outside.

Got to Nottingham was in and out that quick I forgot to take any more pics but had another collection on the way back in yet another driveway

You can take all the time you want in this job, you can be rude to builders, you can deliver the wrong product all of those are excusable BUT FFS dont drive over peoples grass verge YOU know the bit that the council cut but people think its theirs DONT TOUCH IT.

Plenty of space to reverse in although you got to be quick as people usually come tear arsing over that hill with the double white lines, the highway code says you can only corss them to overetake slow vehicles AFAIK I wonder what the law says about going over them to manouvre?. ROG■■?.

The control station , this is where it all happens I think !!! its so much easier up here with the all round vision than the ones on the floor where you cant see a dman thing.

Got the collection on in front of the insulation and back to the yard for 16:00 nothing els eto do so just walked around the yard for an hour.

Its quite quiet for us but we are still doing quite well as a branch we are making money even though the housing market is non existent buiolders are still working in places, Jasnuary will be the key month not just for us but for everyone.

was that the gypsy site in spalding?? if so,i got the magnum in there with rather great difficulty (as you can imagine),drove in,backed out.also i hear (on very good grapevine)marshalls will no longer be supplying jewsons with pavers/slabs/decorative paving etc in the new year, can you confirm??

No it was the one in Newark, personally I hope Marshalls do stop supplying then we can go to Brett and start making some money Marshalls are far too expensive !!! BUT I havent heard anything about that from the people within yet.

ah so you getting the cream jobs jammy    i’ll pm you with some potential good info.wish i go put me pics on of magnum getting in/out simular sites…i ain’t mastered it yet,but gettin there…lol

Most of the places I work at would go nuts if I backed up peoples driveways. I hope you got them to sign a damage indemnity. lol

Funniest one I had was dropping 6 packs of block paving on a job. I was in a 26foot body 6 axle iveco and fully loaded. This was my first drop and I weighed the wrong side of 20 tonnes easily. The builder wanted me to back up next doors driveway and drop the packs in batches so they wouldn’t have to humpt hem all up the drive.

Main problem was the next door neighbours driveway was tarmaced with about an inch of tarmac and the daily traffic of cars had created 2 grooves front to back passing over the two lightweight manhole covers in the drive.

He argued liek chuff with me telling me it would be fine for me to drive on it. Funny how all 6 packs got dropped curbside when I explained who would pay for recovery when I sunk down a sewer
