Had the result of most recent psa test at 13.9 , I believe the previous one was 13.5 , they put this down to enlarged prostrate ( different to years of infections causing it .)
Originally they said next psa will be in 6 months ( it was put to 18 months not long ago ) , now they’ve rung & said they want another psa test done in the next 2 weeks as the urology nurse said she is concerned at the continued rise of my psa ( another trust said in 33% of cases a rising psa can mean the cancer is becoming more aggressive ( though that trust requested a biopsy that showed no change ) .
Would be nice to get some answers , but I’m nigh on 5 years of having prostrate cancer I’ve never got an answer so not hopeful .
A PSA blood test is not infallible, mine fluctuates, but barring a biopsy it’s all they’ve got. Cheer up, I wish mine was 13.9, mine has been ‘stable’ around 30.0 for a few years until the last one when it hit the 40.0 mark, it’s done that once before and that was caused by a urinary infection, next test it settled down again.
Wow! those PSA blood tests are high, I hope they can do something to get them down to a lower level.
I’ve got a telephone appointment with urology on the 16th December for the one I missed in November, They sent my doc & me a letter to have the last two blood test results I had done on hand when they ring, Bloody doctor doesn’t have them & I can’t track them down, It’s ridiculous, surely they’re on the computer system!!!
My last PSA result in February that I got was 0.98, they said last time I was in urology that it could spike again but not to worry about it as it’s normal.
It’ll soon be three years I was diagnosed with an aggresive prostate cancer.
Good luck ady.
Urology told me that if PSA gets to high 40’s/low 50’s 'we’ll do something about it. If the cancer is contained within the prostate they are not overly concerned, it’s when the bugga escapes and get’s into surrounding tissue.
So if a doctor says he wants to do a …ahem…prostate exam, stuff the embarrassment, let him get on with the job and hope he finds the bugga nice and smooth.
Yes you’re right, mine was contained within the prostate, I wonder if that’s why they went the radiotherapy & two years of hormone injections instead of surgery to remove it? One of my neighbours had those radioactive seed implants into his prostate around the same time as me, I wasn’t offered that choice!
Diagnosed with late stage prostate cancer about 6 months ago. First sign I had is weight loss and I mean weight loss. From 80 kg down to 48 kg .Looked like an Auschwitz victim.Constipation like no tomorrow. Wanted to die. Every test going then went to see Urologist and he told me the news.Didnt really care at this point.Told me I would have to have injection of female hormone every month . Apparently the cancer feeds off testoterone and the female hormone stops its production. Day after first injection was bloody amazing.Felt so much better, could go to the toilet. Now 5 months later back up to 73 kg.Believe it or not the nurses from the oncology unit told me I probably get sore nipples and a “ladies” paunch and I did. Been working on trucks all my life (50+ years) and maybe there is something to the diesel theory. So if you get bunged up or start to loose weight get to the bloody quacks. Its not pleasant but better than the alternative.Keep safe gents.
My PSA before they gave me the Oestregen was at 443. Now with the injections Im down to 0.39.
That’s an amazing drop in PSA levels. I’m still trying to find out my last two PSA test results with no luck, It’s been like this for a while & nobody seems to know why they’re not on the computer system.
I did get a letter from NHS Bolton for my catscan results last week & they were clear.
The two years of hormone injections has worked for me too, but as you say, you get the side effects from it, I must have put a stone in weight on & got moobs too.
Hi I have to have a blood test every month and a lady rings me and asks me how Im feeling and gives me my PSA readings.I also take some tablets called Erleada. Supposed to take 4 a day but that made me feel “vague” so reduced it to two a day.Seem to be doing me some good. Good luck my friend.
After 7 attempts they failed to get any blood for my psa test so was told to come back on my original appointment of 27 th , went back & the same problem , can’t get blood , nurse very abrupt & said have you been drinking water !!! , yes im nearly drowning under it all .
Told to go outside & drink more , but eventually your peeing as much as you drink , went back in and different nurse as shift change , gets blood straight away
Not been as well lately so see what psa test shows , I don’t think it’s prostrate causing issues , wife ( nhs ) Said age / multiple illnesses are starting to take its toll , but as consultant said it’s very difficult to know what is causing what , it could be multiple things .
All the best to everyone
Sounds like there keeping there eye on you biking which is good , urology on the whole have bern great with me
All the best mate
The older you get the longer it takes to recover from everything, I twisted my knee months ago & could barely walk or put any weight on it for weeks, It’s only now that It’s getting better, The joys of old age eh!
I’ve now been sent an appointment letter from Bolton hospital for a telephone appointment with urology on the 3rd of February & the letter asks me to have the blood test results on hand when they ring.
You couldn’t make it up! what chance have I got of finding them, (& boy have I tried) if urology cant find them, they’re the ones that sent me for the PSA blood tests.
Best of luck with your treatment mate.
Latest psa was 13.8 , down slightly from prev 13.9 ( prev one was 13.5 ) going to further results to consultant to see whether he wants to bring may mri forward , but as I had a biopsy in April he doesn’t think it will be the case .
They now believe the highish psa is enlarged prostrate , whereas before they said infections were causing it .
We shall see , hope everyone is well
Good luck my man .
Best of luck Ady, those PSA numbers are higher than any PSA test results I’ve had, The highest I had before radiotherapy was 6.3 & they said it was an aggressive cancer but located in the prostate only. I’ve got a telephone appointment with Bolton Urology in three weeks time & still no nearer to finding out the last lot of blood test results I’ve had over the space of six months, bloody ridiculous.
That’s both
Urology have rung after contacting consultant , he said as psa hasn’t really changed 13.5/ 13.9 / 13.8 he feels there’s no need to do anything , he’s happy about how thing are .
He said we will look again after your may mri , which I reminded them was for kidney not prostrate , eventually they agreed .
Now going to look in nov , as last one was nov 23 , so 24 months is nov 25 ,did ask about medication as they said the believed higher psa was enlarged prostrate , but told not at moment but will review agin in nov .
Other than higher psa & one issue doc is dealing with , could be related to other health issues I’m fine , no real symptoms , so not really concerned , but to mention you’ll need medication , then we will look in nov ( nearly a year away ) seems odd , but we shall see .
Nobody lives forever my friends. 68 now and what will be will be. Had a good life and enjoyed every minute of it. Met some wonderful people, had some great times, would not change one day. Loved the people that I met through the truck industry. I loved them all. The odd ■■■■■■■ but the vast majority where the best people you could ever meet. God bless you all.
I’m 85, as previously stated my PSA is 40 ish and the treatment is ‘watch and wait’.
My philosophy ??
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - “What a ride, where are the wimmin?”
When I was an apprentice I once said to the bloke who was training me that I was in a rut.
He looked at me and said “You know what a rut is dont ya” ?
“Its a grave with the f***kin ends kicked out so get out of it”
I will never forget his words.
Just had my telephone appointment with Bolton urology & I finally got my PSA test results from September 24, It was 0.04 my lowest ever. She could only find this PSA test result on the system, There was one from May 24 along with a diabetes blood test, a coeliac blood test & I can’t remember the other blood test that are still outstanding as it’s been so long ago. She’s arranging more PSA blood tests for May & September this year.
