Hi.Can anyone give me any advice on working for a German company.
Don´t think about it. They don´t pay enough. If you don´t want to earn money, if you want to pay for working than it´s ok.
For me personally, is working in Germany just stress. And most transport companies in Germany believe that European laws don’t apply to them. Often, drivers are only exploited.

I thought they paid about the same as the UK.
What’s the going rate over there?
And do they pay overnight subsistance tax free?
I enjoyed my short time with the Germans but was an experience like nothing else and other than pay i can not agree more with silver wolve. Who are you trying for?

The most companys in Germany don´t pay more than 2000 oder maximum 2300 Euro gross salary per month for europe work.Net Pay ist mostly maximum something between 1900 and maximum 2200 Euro included the overnight pay,at many companies, it is even less.Only a few companys pay more.
Yes they pay overnight subsistance tax free. Some companys pay only national rate for expenses outside.Thats not so much than the rates for abroad.
I don´t know what a german company would pay if it´s based in UK.
And now even convert euros into pounds. You could never work in Germany and earn enough money for living in England. I think it will maybe only be possible to work for a german company when it´s based in UK and if you will get a UK Contract.
I have read somewhere on this site in many ago… In Germany there has varies of pay structure for farmer, labourer, drivers etc on regional like Southern and Northern Germany have own different minimum pay rate - Bayern, Sachsen Anhalt, etc
I don’t know if that’s true
Also German Haulages are under the pressure with cost due their new neighbours countries with competition like PL, CZ, H etc who offer cheap rate work than German
In Germany are shortage of truck drivers due younger people dont want to be trucks driver and they seem job are unattractive to them due money, long period away from home, stressful due strictly BAG, Tacho, difficult to find parking and boring job so German start to find plenty of drivers from their new neighbours countries or relocation like Duvenbeck, LOG IN, Rosner, etc
But I do admire German haulage and they take serious business with their truck & trailer outfits… rare to see them as dirty or old or unsafe trucks & trailer

Yes thats correct…and it´s true there are really a lot of different regional pay rates. In The South of Germany mostly they pay more than in the North and the companies pay the worst in the East.
yeah esp ex DDR - Eastern Germany but what about Berlin? - good pay or not?
In the most regions around berlin it´s the same then in the rest of East Germany…they don´t pay so good. Only a few big companys pay a little bit more…but everywhere in the east the wages are lower then in the rest of Germany. It needs a lot of luck to find a good paying company. It´s not impossible but rarely. The most drivers from east germany are searching a job in the west or in the south.
In this moment the most driver jobs for european work are in the east of germany because of the low wages. The Transport companys get a lot of orders because they can work cheaper. They don´t have to pay so much for a driver.
That will change only if the minimum wage is introduced in Germany.

Was looking at a company called Jäger transport based in Bochum. Seen their trailers in Port Talbot steelworks.
Apparently they load about 3 or 4 times a week there.

In UK you maybe earn more, but the cost of living is more expensive. In Germany maybe you earn less, but i think the cost of living is here cheaper. For a german driver it´s perfect to work in UK an stay in germany. But if you can earn enough money to stay in Uk?No idea…call the company and try…maybe you will have luck.

Yes thats the one. As my wife is half German we have thought about maybe living in Germany as well as she qualifies for German citizenship. We shall see. Thanks for your advice.
plenty of german drivers who live near the bigger ports work for swedish companies, pulling their trailers all over europe out of the ports. from my own experience a good swedish haulier pays a wage almost double to what I’ve read on this thread…

EU citizens can live & work where they choose to throughout the EU.
If you want to live in UK and work in Germany. The Problem is only the Exchange rate between Euro and Pound.I’ve looked on a Web page for current exchange rates. It´s crazy. The current rate from yesterday is 1 Euro = 0,82 British pound. So if you earn 2000 euro you only will get 1649 British pound.
The advice with working for swedish companies will maybe be a good second alternative.
